It's more telling of the TV Movie/Miniseries race and this is also something a little more recent. Certain techs (like editing) can often point closer to a win in the upper categories, as can the guest acting races.

Tech awards have little to do with the main awards. Lots of shows win a lot of techs but a few (or even no) major awards like Writing and Directing (like Carnivale, Six Feet Under and 24) and conversely, quite a few shows win a lot in the Top awards but only a few techs (The Sopranos is an example).

I was hoping for some kind of tech sweep to help predict the emmys. Looks like it's down to Elizabeth or Into the West for Miniseries, My Name Is Earl is looking strong from the techs for a Comedy Series victory. Drama Series might go to Grey's Anatomy but none of these necessarily make sense, so the techs are useless.

Though, I believe this is also the first time in Emmy history that the Academy Awards won title design.

Last night gave Leachman her eighth Primetime Emmy (plus one Daytime), which makes her the all-time champ for acting wins. She could even make it nine next week with Supporting Actress for Mrs. Harris.

The strangest win for me was Rome's Visual Effects win for the first episode. The eleventh episode would've deserved it for that arena scene alone, but the first episode didn't have many visual effects shots at all. Almost all of the far away shots of the city were CGI'd, but I don't remember many of those in the first episode. I'll have to watch the first episode again to see if I missed anything.
