NYFCC Winners
Re: NYFCC Winners
Four awards constitutes, a sweep right? For the last few minute, I was pondering a Spotlight victory tagging along Michael Keaton's win. Picture, Director, Screenplay, and Cinematography. That's their heartiest endorsement of a film since No Country for Old Men.
"How's the despair?"

Wow. Small movie about lesbians. Well, they were certainly voting more on integrity than anything else this year. Other options more likely to grab headlines.

A return to sanity. Wins by films that critics, not fan-boys, love.

Fighting category fraud where even we weren't sure it existed. And, possibly, apologizing for last year.FilmFan720 wrote:ACTOR: Michael Keaton, Spotlight

Re: NYFCC Winners
Well, unlike prior years when folks questioned whether they chose "name" actors in order to boost their prestige or to get good press coverage, so far the awards have lacked that kind of buzz or pizzazz. Even the Stewart win, while a surprise, doesn't excite one.

I had no doubt Ronan would make the Oscar nominations list, but the old-line critics' groups didn't seem like her turf.
Charlotte Rampling now probably really needs LA to have a strong shot at nomination.

Darn them for shutting up Luminick.
Would love to see who the other contenders were.
But doesn't seem that it was that contentious.

Re: NYFCC Winners
Purely guesswork, but I'd imagine both Inside Out and Anomalisa were hugely popular, and it might have taken several ballots for one to get a decisive majority.FilmFan720 wrote:BEST ANIMATED FILM: Inside Out
Ironically, this was the longest voting period so far for any award, 27 minutes after they announced Non-Fiction Film. Could that mean that it was a heated debate, or just a bathroom break?

Interesting. Anomalisa was supposed to be the favorite here.
