The way it was going I was expecting to see David O. Russell named Best Director.

Re: NYFCC Winners
Of what's viable and on the table for both crix and Oscar, J-Law is far from the most objectionable option. In that sense, flash on, pan-flasher.

Re: NYFCC Winners
If Jennifer Lawrence was meant to be a mere flash in the pan, this is turning into a long flash.

One of whom -- Lawrence -- just won supporting actress. Backing up my earlier comment, that those who finish close one year can come back and win soon after.Eric wrote:Also a ludicrous one. Well, that and the fact that the critics groups have been pretty good thus far about giving Lubezki his due, and thus they probably didn't feel they had to go to bat for him on this hybrid work. The no-CGI in cinematography rule still applies in critics' groups.

Re: NYFCC Winners
Thinking it through: alot of the other hot contenders -- Payne, the Coens, Woody -- have already won screenplay prizes from NY. (And a Spike Jonze film -- Adaptation -- has as well, albeit for Charlie Kaufman) David O. Russell, with his hird straight contending film, might have been seen as due. (The critics do have some level of "he/she has earned it on career points" -- many times actors who are runners-up one year come back to win shortly thereafter)Mister Tee wrote:Internet reports had led me to believe this film was slipping to second tier. REALLY want to see some runners-up for this category. It feels like there are a dozen films that might have won it in a standard year.
