New novel discovered from 'Mildred Pierce's' James M. Cain
By Lindsay Deutsch, USA TODAY
With HBO's miniseries Mildred Pierce sparking
renewed buzz after Sunday's two Emmy wins, Hard
Case Crime has announced that they have found a
long lost crime novel from Pierce writer James M. Cain.
The Cocktail Waitress, scheduled for release next
fall, is about a young woman whose husband
suspiciously dies. To make ends meet, she becomes
a waitress and meets two men: one who she loves,
and one who she marries. Imagine the Kate Winslet potential!
"For fans of the genre, The Cocktail Waitress is
the Holy Grail. It's like finding a lost
manuscript by Hemingway or a lost score by
Gershwin that's how big a deal this is," said
Charles Ardai, founder and editor of Hard Case
Crime, a line of mystery novels published by Titan books, in a statement.
The news comes after Sunday's Emmys, where
Winslet won best actress in a miniseries or movie
and Guy Pearce was awarded supporting actor in the same category.
