I haven't seen enough of these to place a vote. It's difficult to imagine, though, that any of these are better than Grand Illusion, a truly great work of art.

A split vote for me this year, with my best picture award going to The Adventures of Robin Hood and best director going to Grand Illusion, both great films in different ways.

Grand Illusion is of a different breed from the rest, and easily gets my vote.

But there are alot of enjoyable movies here. In fact, to be heretical, I think I like this group overall more than the much-touted '39 batch -- that group seems to me full of "official classics"; this list I more LIKE.

Grand Illusion, with Adventures of Robin Hood extremely close.
"...it is the weak who are cruel, and...gentleness is only to be expected from the strong." - Leo Reston

"Cruelty might be very human, and it might be cultural, but it's not acceptable." - Jodie Foster
