Yeah, I was going to say, obviously his Experiment was a success this year.

Wow! I won!!! I won a predicting contest at the UAADB!

I'm working on that statistical formula for 8 years now, and I do it with one goal in mind: to some day beat the UAADB in predicting the Oscar nominees! Now that day has finally come... And I have to find another goal in life :-)

Actually, without the formula I would have predicted Wall-E for best picture and director instead of Frost/Nixon. So long live that formula.

In the other categories I didn't think to much (I didn't had the time, I was at work writing that post). I just put the ASC nominees for best cinematography, the ACE nominees for best editing, the CAS-nominees for best sound and sound-editing, etc.

So maybe that's the secret of it all: write your final predictions at work, so you don't have too much time for (wishfull) thinking.

Thanks Cinemanolis for all your hard work!

This is actually the first time i ever attempted to predict all the catorgories, i really just enjoy rooting for films, performances ect. that i feel are the best...so i was pretty sure i would be at the bottom, so i'm very happy to be middle of the pack lol.

I know it doesn't count for anything, but I had him down for my 'Dark Horse' spot.

Some more statistics

Nobody predicted the following

Stephen Daldry 'The Reader' for Best Director

Kate Winslet 'The Reader' for Best Actress

Michael Shannon 'Revolutionary Road' for Best Supporting Actor

'Wanted' for Best Sound Mixing

Only 3 participants predicted 'O Saya' for Best Song

Despite The Reader in Pic and Changeling in Cinematography, I suck.

Ironically wishful thinking would have helped me this year, the first year in which I haven't allowed wishful thinking to guide my predictions. I would have won with 74 points, but I'm just happy my real choices won.

Congrats to Sijmin. I wonder if he employed his famous statistical theory to his predictions.

Well, Zahveed, Wishful thinking, sadly, gets all of us in trouble sometimes. I know I've been guilty of it in the past, but I tried to be entirely empirical this year and tried to shunt my personal opinions out of the equation and I think it turned out quite well. Obviously no one is perfect, but that I did so well, especially in the Top categories, makes me feel better about my methodology this year.

Damn my wishful thinking.

It's not a surprise that with us mostly making all the same choices, that the scores are so bunched together.

Thanks, Manolis, for undertaking such an arduous task and to Filmfan (belatedly) for doing the same with the Globes.
