In the 15 years since I first posted my list of 3 names, I can add:

Paul Giamatti

Which means either I'm not the star-struck type or I don't get out much.

Oh, I also learned I'm distantly related to James Horner, which is funny since I spent the first few years on this board dissing his work every chance I got.

In 2010 Bryan Adams was the only one I had ever meet.

Since then, I can add Paul Giamatti and Juliette Binoche (actually, it was this past Sunday in Lisbon)

At last year's Oscars the Japanese guy who would win Best Foreign Picture later that night was in a snit because I was in his seat. He spoke little English but made his snit-ism known. (Looking at my ticket, the usher told me I had the secomd seat. I assumed that was 2nd from the aisle, but it turned out it was 2nd from the end.)Afterwards, on my way out, I congratulated the guy but he was still in a snit and ignored me. :D Oh well, that award has already gone down as just another of Oscar's Foreign Film embarrassments.

Apologies if I've related this story before, but two years ago when Chris Lavis & Maciek Szczerbowski were nominated in the animated short category for Madame Tutli-Putli, I had seen them at the screening of that film at Sundance the night before, and when I saw them wandering around Park City on nominations morning, I was able to recognize and congratulate them in person.

At the previous Sundance, I formally interviewed Jon Else, nominated for two best documentary Oscars including The Day After Trinity in 1981. My interview is archived here.

I'm pretty sure those are the only nominees I've knowingly met. I've met the daughter of a multiple winner, though: William Wyler's daughter Judy. She's president of the board of the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, which I write educational materials for.

Do people on your Facebook friends list count? I have a few people there like Rod Lurie, Oren Moverman, Amy Heckerling, Heather Matarazzo...some other people I'm forgetting. Tons of critics in my list (like Claudio Puig, Mike Clark, many OFCS members)...

But, they probably don't count much since they probably friend everyone.
