The use of the Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil" is especially ingenious -- the scene in which it is employed deserves to become a classic.

A shame it won't be released here, but hopefully it will find life on video. And, I agree, Uri for those of us who grew up in the film's time period. the movie is amazingly astute.

When C.R.A.Z.Y. opened here, Jean Mark Vallee, its director, was interviewed in an Israeli paper, and he emphasized the importance of the particular music he choose for the score and how painfully difficult it was to get permission to use it. It was made possible because it was contractually stated that the film will not be commercially released in the states. Sorry.

And yes, it is an original and very endearing movie. Especially for those of us who happened to actually be there, I mean the '60s and '70s. The way that time frame is so wickedly evoked is priceless.

C.R.A.Z.Y. is a great -- and totally original -- movie. I hope to God it gets released in the States.

Certainly! It has been considered by many Singapore critics as the best Singapore film ever made. Director Eric Khoo had been perceived as a good short film director but so-so in making feature films. In this 3rd auteurish feature film of his (he co-directed a lousy commercial film several years ago, which doesn't count), he brilliantly weaves three fictional stories with a documentary of a courageous real-life handicapped woman - and the final scene where a fictional character embraces the real-life woman at her own real-life home will leave you speechless.

The film was invited to compete at Cannes (international competition - the first in Singapore Cinema) as well as selected to open the Directors' Fortnight. Eric opted for the latter because he knew that his film might be "buried" by a bunch of big names should he go for the competition. IThe film is reportedly received a 10-minute standing ovation at the DF opening. A big gun of Warner Bros. in London immediately phoned the Managing Director of WB Singapore and raved about this film, resulted in the latter acquiring the local rights.

Also watch out SEPET's follow-up GUBRA at SFIFF. It was world premiered in Singapore last Monday and opened here on Thursday (still pending censorship decision in Malaysia because of, again, some religiously and politically sensitive elements from their point-of-view). The film has generated mixed reviews in Singapore but I personally considered it the most mature work by Yasmin which is essentially a summary of her first two films (a bit too premature though ... we can count how many films Wong KW, HHH, Tsai ML and Kitano had made respectively before they came out with their personal "summary films", namely, 2046, THREE TIMES, THE WAYWARD CLOUD and TAKESHIS').
