From the Associated Press:

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 2009 nominees:

Jeff Beck -- Beck, one of the most influential rock guitarists, formed the first edition of the Jeff Beck Group in 1968. Inducted into the hall of fame in 1992 as a member of the Yardbirds.

Chic -- Songwriter-producers Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards rescued disco in 1977 with a combination of groove, soul and studio smarts. Chart toppers included ''Le Freak.''

Wanda Jackson -- The ''First Lady of Rock and Roll'' played her first package tour at 18 with Elvis Presley in 1955. Performed with Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash.

Little Anthony and the Imperials -- They scored hits with ''Tears on My Pillow'' and ''Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko-Bop'' starting in the late '50s and had one of the most energetic stage shows around.

Metallica -- Metallica rose from the Los Angeles music underground in the early '80s to become one of the most successful and acclaimed heavy metal bands of their era.

Run-D.M.C. -- Run-D.M.C. took hip-hop from the streets of New York to the national stage in the 1980s. Run-D.M.C. and the late Jam Master Jay set the template for modern hip-hop.

Stooges -- Iggy Pop and company burst out of Ann Arbor, Mich., in the late '60s and were immediately embraced in New York, London and Los Angeles for the nuclear-powered simplicity of their music.

War -- War debuted with the Afro-Latin R&B groove ''Spill the Wine'' in 1969 and followed with a string of hits featuring a social message grounded by their breezy Southern California vibe.

Bobby Womack -- Womack has a career that spans 55 years back to sibling group the Womack Brothers. A triple-threat as solo artist, landmark session guitarist and writer of Aretha Franklin's ''Chain Of Fools'' among others.
=================================

I'm glad to see Wanda Jackson finally nominated, but sorry that former unsuccessful nominee Joe Tex is not in the mix. And once again the seminal girl group The Marvelettes are not nominated.
