Haven't seen the trailer but have seen Winslet in photos as Mildred. She appears to have zero glamour, unlike Crawford in the part, which is probably more authentic according to the the chracter as portrayed in the book.

I just watched the trailer for the Todd Haynes "remake" of Mildred Pierce and I think it looks pretty fantastic. Great casting, too. I'm particularly intrigued by Evan Rachel Wood as Veda and Melissa Leo in the Eve Arden role. Kate Winslet, of course, looks like she really brings it as Mildred, too. I think the whole film will benefit from being a more faithful adaptation of James M. Cain's novel.

Undoubtedly, another HBO gem and a surefire Emmy nominee in multiple categories.
I think that the (considerable) changes screenwriter Ranald MacDougall made to Mildred Pierce were marked improvements and that the 1945 movie is much more effective than the book. I think it is good that the TV version will be more faithful to the novel, though, because if it was just using the screenplay the project would be pointless, as the Curtiz film is just about perfect.

How ironic that last night's episode of Mad Men featured not only a joke about the Emmys, but also a significant sequence set at an awards show.

Show came in on time, which is amazing in itself.

Opening musical number was fine, comedy routine just OK, but Fallon was fine the rest of the evening.

Although I was happy Julia Ormond won, I wasn't happy with her rambling speech which was nearly as bad as Pacino's.

Nice that they had the real Temple Grandin and her mother there.

Mad Men has been the best drama series the last three years running and Bryan Cranston the best lead actor for three years going as well. Happy to see Aaron Paul finally recognized.

Kyra Sedgwick should have won two or three times by now, but I wasn't displeased to see her win this year over the favored Julianna Margolies whose show I don't think is all that good.

I don't really have a problem with his wins, but there's something very off-putting about Matthew Weiner.

I think Al Pacino has officially crossed over from legendary actor to rambling buffoon. He needs to retire.

I love how the Temple Grandin people were acting like they were part of something that was so edgy that it could only be produced by HBO. Everything I've seen about it looks about as edgy as a circle. Glad to see Julia Ormond get some recognition for something though. After her failed breakthrough in the mid-90's, I thought she was pretty much finished, but she's emerging as a respected character actress.

Not much else of interest. Glad to see Aaron Paul win. Bryan Cranston is good, but he already had two before tonight, and Kyle Chandler and Jon Hamm are still waiting for their first.

Some random thoughts:

- I thought the opening was pretty good. Still quite inferior to Conan's opening a few years back. Jimmy Fallon was overall fine as a host.

- I'm thrilled for the Comedy winners. All very deserved. (Yes, I'm including Ryan Murphy).

- I'm disappointed Lost and Conan went home empty-handed. Oh, well.

- Though I didn't predict them, I'm very happy for Aaron Paul, Archie Panjabi and Eric Stonestreet. One thing I like about the Emmys they do give breaks to unknown actors.

- Kyra Sedgwick wins for The Closer, whoda thunk it?

- Though they won 3 years in a row, Mad Men still doesn't have an acting win, right? Bizarre.

I liked Susan Sarandon in You Don't Know Jack, but I think Brenda Vaccaro is really sensational in it, too. The Bob's Big Boy and the picketing scenes especially. Her chemistry with Al Pacino is so organic.

Temple Grandin is one of the best biopics in recent years and it would be a crime if Claire Danes went home empty-handed tomorrow night.

As far as I know, nope.

Although a couple have won two in one year. Off the top of my head, Stockard Channing (Supporting Drama Actress for The West Wing and Lead Miniseries/Movie Actress for The Matthew Shepard Story) and Shirley Knight (Guest Actress for NYPD Blue and Supporting Miniseries/Movie Actress for Indictment: The McMartin Trial). I'm sure there are a few more.

Tina Fey won 3 Emmys in one year back in 2008: As a producer for 30 Rock, Writing and Lead Actress.

I'm sure there are producers-directors-writers out there who may have won 3 Emmys in one year.

Anyone with more knowledge of the Emmys:

If NPH wins for Supporting Actor in a Comedy, he will have won all three awards for which he was nominated this year. The question is. How frequently does this occur and how many other hat trick winners will he join?
