Remember in Little League when everyone got a trophy?
Anyway, I think this thread is getting off topic FilmFan. We wouldn't want that. What is this thread supposed to be about again? Ah yes, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I don't know if you counted me in that group, and frankly I don't care. I consider everyone here an intelligent poster, and was feeling insulted for whomever you directed that too. I could care less what you think of me, or my posting.

I do think it's funny that some of the people complaining about a lack of intellectual discourse haven't really ever added much to it themselves. But whatever. Carry on.
Way to go Akash. Take a group of people who are trying to make a civilized point that they don't like the constant sexual sidesteps every post seems to take and turn it into a childish insult. Way to add to the intellectual discourse yourself.

You know, I just love how people bandy about the word censorship without knowing what it's really about. We're not telling you you're going to be censored. Censorship is an active choice to prevent people from expressing opinions. That it's been overused in itself to represent any abridgement of the right to spreak freely is ridiculous. There is no censorship here. We're asking for people to restrain their talk. Focus it into the topics that exist. Technically, I could go in and delete every off-topic post that exists, but I don't. I don't want to have to, but the way these topics are being sidetracked for no reason, it's bordering on offensive. When I have members who are upset and not wanting to READ the boards because they don't want to have to wade through inane and pointless chatter, then I have a problem.
I created the off-topic sections to give people a place to talk dirty or keep themselves privately amused, but that chatter has spilled over into countless other areas that seems inappropriate. I don't think anyone has a problem with a harmless "he/she's hot comment", I think they have a problem with a consistent, productive discussion suddenly spiraling out of control with endless namecalling (even if some of it is good natured) and sexual humor.
We're asking you to focus. That's it. We're not telling you that you can't say something, we just want you to make your comments in the appropriate areas, not where the discussions don't belong.

Don't, Steph.
I actually find the sex talk refreshing. I'm not the biggest fan of the term "butt nugget" and do think it was beginning to border on overuse. However, I'm not going to call for censorship on an open discussion board. If you don't like something, don't read it. It's truly that simple, people. I stopped reading criddic3's posts because I found them so exasperating -- does that mean that he should be banned from spewing forth ideological rhetoric and right-wing propaganda (which, I might add, is far more damaging and significantly less sonorous than a little harmless porn talk or gayboy chat). No. Because that would be against the original spirit of the board.
Recently, I received a warning from one of the "moderators" regarding the expression of a particular phrase that had been repeated by others. I was threatened with expulsion from the board. This is the first time in ten years I've ever received such a message and I think it speaks volumes about the current mood from on high. I have theories about why this is, but I'm now deterred from expressing those views because I don't want to get kicked off UAADB.
One of the things I enjoy about this board is that we respect each other enough to not allow discussions to devolve into ludicrous name-calling and personal attacks. No one has ever called me a faggot or demeaned me in any way. I think the closest I got was being called a praying mantis which is still one of the funniest things that's ever happened to me here.

I will chime in and agree with everything OG, Magilla and cam have said on this topic. I am getting real tired of EVERYTHING on this board being brought back to on-going sex talk. I enjoy some sex talk as much as the next person, but this board is not always the place for it. I love this board, and the great discussions we have here, but I fee like I have missed a lot of that discussion because I don't want to wade through the juvenile sex jokes. It gets pathetic some times.

You know, I don't have a problem with the re-capturing of youth...hell, I do it in real life with all the more-teenagy things I do, but I have to agree with Damien, but not solely on the butt nugget thing. One of the things that has made this board so successful in the past 11 years is that we were a place for intellectual discussion with a few disagreements tossed in. Now, th disagreements are getting ridiculous, but we've added another element that may keep repeat visitors from coming back and that's the sexual expression. While I have no problem with people expressing their sexuality, I almost feel like I'm stuck in a bath house sometimes. We like to have fun and, like I said, I have no problem with that, but let's try not to derail every conversation we have with sexual commentary or unnecessary political grumbling.
