As this issue was not intended to be a discussion, I am closing this thread. I will be posting these titles and classifications in the General Announcement forum where I should have put them in the first place.

Did you clear it with me beforehand?

Oh wait. You didn't.

Well, as long as you made yourself laugh it wasn't a total waste.

Wow. Oscar Guy, you certainly read a lot into my post, that I didn't intend to say or even imply. For something so "insignificant", you certainly have loaded a lot of importance into your interpretation of this new feature.

Which is fine, actually. Clearly you're attached to what you've put together for us. I'm glad I voiced my opinion, even if it was misinterpreted. Carry on.

But what you're saying is that people who have higher post counts than you are not posting of the same quality? That doesn't make sense if the "quality of posters on this site is second to none."

If you're concerned about your number of posts not being recognized then you're putting a little too much value on the new ranking system. It's supposed to be taken in fun, not as some destruction of your personal ego. It would have been in use long before now if I hadn't JUST noticed that it was an option. I think it's great to recognize those who have taken more time out of their lives to contribute to the message board than others. What comments like these are saying is that you think anyone with a high number of posts cannot share the same quality of posts as yours, which actually ends up diminishing their accomplishments as much as you feel the rank system diminishes yours.

The only person I could even see any of you grousing about having a higher post count than either of you is Criddic, but when you get him out of the political arena, he's really not so bad after all. But, I really think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion.

For the record, I'd like to say that I appreciated cam's dissent. His responses to your defensiveness were perhaps harsh, but in his original sentiment at least, he was expressing a view that others on the board shared (well, at least one other on the board: me). I haven't said anything before now because a) I felt that given my own low post count it might come off as a kind of "sour grapes", b) I figured somebody else here would share my distaste for this kind of message board elitism and speak up, and c) because, when all is said and done, the feature is relatively "insignificant" to use your term.

Whenever I've peeked at another message board that uses these kinds of silly rankings, it's always made me cock an eyebrow and wonder how seriously I should take the community of posters there. In these moments, I felt a little proud that the board I frequent most often (even if I don't contribute as often as others) seemed "above" such frivolity (I prefer the other brands of frivolity engaged in here). It was disappointing to see that change this week, but I figure, as long as the board doesn't fundamentally change, I can certainly live with the appellations.

I speak up now in support of my friend cam. Wish I'd said something before, in response to your October 14th post on the subject, but I'm not sure I knew exactly what you were up to from the way you described it.

Perhaps you need to step back from the board for awhile to re-examine your priorities if something this insignificant can throw you into a tailspin.

What is your problem? I mean seriously? You seem to have some utterly misguided dislike of me and I quite frankly don't understand it.

I'm just sick of you making a federal case out of every innocent thing...

And you were the one who said "Mehthinks you are caught up in your own importance"

Until that point I didn't really care whether you liked it or not. You made it a personal attack at that point, so I have a right to be irritated and call you out on it. Just cause you don't like it doesn't mean it's a bad idea. It's just not your cup of tea. I heard your complaint and I disagreed with it. My making this change wasn't really up for discussion. I just told everyone about it.

I'm not the paranoid one; I have seen too many posts by you lashing out at other's ideas. As Akash said to Marco, "the comment is beneath you." Or maybe not.

Yes, I agree, Peter. What the hell do we want bragging rights for? I don't brag to my friends that I am on this site; I may tell them if it comes up, but its not something I wear a T-shirt about. Mehthinks you are caught up in your own importance, Wes.

If we must have titles, it might be less painful if "regular" members were called Writers instead of Actors. For individual titles, Professional would be more fitting than Student.
