I think that's sort of what happened with Mommie Dearest. The critics panned the film and the promoters then decided to use their negative comments in order to up the camp value of the entire picture. "See the biggest Mother of them all!" and the like which also led audience members to start bringing wire hangers and cannisters of Ajax to showings to act out the infamous scene which, of course, is similar to the Rocky Horror Picture Show phenomenon. I'm sure there are countless instances where John Waters translated disgusted reviews from critics into entire ad campaigns.
"The mantle of spinsterhood was definitely in her shoulders. She was twenty five and looked it."

I think most of us can agree that we hate a lot of the shamless quote whoring that goes on in the film business, but I was thinking about this and want to suggest this to those marketers as a valid strategy.
"See the film critics call 'jaw-droppingly awful'"
Don't you think some curious moviegoers would jump on that? It would be a clever marketing campaign.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
