I remember when the AARP awards were an amusing afterthought to the Oscars. Now they're being reported in Variety as though they were as important to the Oscar race as The Globes and SAG awards. Ridiculous, of course, but let's remember that to in order to be eligible for an AARP award the individual recipient has to be over 50. There are no age restrictions applied to the best film contenders.
The AARP film critics considered these the year's 15 Best Films for Grownups:
1. Spotlight
2. The Martian
3. The Intern
4. The Danish Girl
5. Inside Out
6. Brooklyn
7. Love & Mercy
8. Bridge of Spies
9. Straight Outta Compton
10. Joy
11. Concussion
12. Room
13. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
14. Carol
15. Suffragette
The AARP membership, asked to pick their favorite from amongst these 15, is currently trending toward The Martian in a big way. Here's the current order:
1. The Martian
2. Bridge of Spies
3. Spotlight
4. The Intern
5. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
6. Brooklyn
7. Inside Out
8. Straight Outta Compton
