GROUP I - replace Nicole Kidman (The Hours) with Maggie Gyllenhaal (Secretary) in the category of Best Actress.

GROUP IIA - replace committee (Gangs of New York) with Dover Kosashvili (Late Marriage) in the category of Best Original Screenplay.
GROUP IIB - Danny Elfman (Spider-Man) replaces Thomas Newman (Road to Perdition) in the category of Best Original Score.

GROUP IIIA - Gangs of New York looks amazing. Amazing. I don't care what anybody here says, its triumph of art direction is beyond reproach. It easily replaces Chicago in the category of Best Art Direction. I would happily replace The Hours with Gangs of New York in the category of Best Costume Design as well. Get that menopausal disaster out of these categories!
GROUP IIIB - replace Gangs of New York with Minority Report in the category of Best Sound (Mixing).

Interesting that Gangs of New York has now been bumped from both Art Direction and Costume Design. Whatever the film's flaws, I thought those two elements were astounding -- the most award-worthy elements of the picture, IMO.

This was a great year -- I'm looking forward to noodling with it!

I. Replace Salma Hayek with Meryl Streep (The Hours) in Best Actress, who undoubtedly placed 6th during the original round of voting.

IIa. Preserve Far From Heaven's elegiac score.
IIb. Preserve The Hours in Adapted Screenplay.

IIIa. Replace the odious Gangs of New York with Far From Heaven in Art Direction.
IIIb. Replace The Pianist with Far From Heaven in Best Costume.

Well since I didn't include a secondary group three selection:

3B: Add The Hours in Best Make Up.

Sorry. Hectic weekend. Barely got anything I had to do done, but I'm slowly catching up.

Gotta do some stuff before it gets undone and some stuff that should have been done in the first place.

Group 1: Preserve Two Towers in Best Picture
Group 2a: Replace "Hands That Built America" in Original Song with "Gollum's Song"
Group 2b: Preserve Two Towers in Editing
Group 3a: Preserve Two Towers in Art Direction
Group 3b: Preserve Two Towers in Sound Editing

And before anyone starts griping, I post the selection requirements in the turn order thread. So, those who went before me are welcome to make secondary selections in the Group 3 categories.

As a reminder all categories may have five nominees. You may either replace an actual nominee in a category with fewer than five nominees or add to that category without replacing one of the existing nominees.

My two favorites of the year (Last Orders, The Son's Room) were unfortunately ineligible. So I'm going to have fun and promote some personal favorites that might not have otherwise been recognized. That's point of the game (or at least one of the points of the game), right?

Group 1: Dump Martin Scorsese in Best Director, and replace him with Clint Eastwood for Blood Work, a contemplation of mortality and aging masked as (and dismissed as) an inconsequential genre potboiler.

Group 2a: Catch Me If You Can is one of Williams's best scores, and despite my desire to do something crazy, I have to rescue it. Drop The Hours.

Group 2b: Lose Gangs of New York, an incoherent mess, in editing, and replace it with The Rules of Attraction.

Group 3: Get rid of Road to Perdition in Sound Effects and replace it with Undisputed.
