We can carp, but overall it's good to see some fresh blood.

The good: Denis Leary, Christopher Meloni, Sandra Oh, Shirley Knight; the out-of-nowhere nomination for Shirley Jones.

The bad: No Hugh Laurie, Patricia Arquette, Felicity Huffman; no Rescue Me for best drama series, way too much of The West Wing.

The ugly: Allison Janney given the opportunity to make another long-winded acceptance speech.

I thought the new voting system was supposed to make the nominees BETTER.

This is the most atrocious list in years.

James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Jennifer Garner, AND Hugh Laurie shut out on the drama side?

Jason Bateman AND Zach Braff left out of Comedy Actor? No Jessica Walter!?!?

I'm hardly the biggest fan of Desperate Housewives, but how on earth was the only regular nominated . . . Alfre Woodard?

In particular, the Comedy Actress category is atrocious. I am stunned and horrified that Mary-Louise Parker, Marcia Cross, and Felicity Huffman couldn't make it in; I thought those three would have had nominations in the bag. And of course, given the shakeup (of sorts) in this category, I still find frustrating that they couldn't find room for Lauren Graham.

The Emmys have found a new way to embarrass themselves yet again!

Seriously. Was Christopher Meloni on anybody's radar?

Delighted to see that Itzin and Smart have ended the "24" supporting curse.

These are crazy nominations.

What's even make it crazier that despite the almost randomness of these noms, they STILL managed to shut out the WB/UPN/CW shows in the major categories. Not even a lousy f*cking writing nod to Everybody Hates Chris.

I'm ECSTATIC that they finally recognized Will Arnett over the overrated Jeffrey Tambor.

Here's an interesting if not terribly sad fact:

ER has now tied with Cheers for the most Emmy nominations ever.

Will & Grace was the year's top-nominated Comedy

24 was the year's most nominated Drama

American Idol has tied The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau for the most nominations by a Nonfiction program in a single season.

The Good: I love this group for recognizing Lisa Kudrow's excellent work as the tragic, yet unwittingly hilarious, wannabe star in the highly underrated "The Comeback" Woo-hoo (!) for any of the "Six Feet Under" nods (especially, the brilliant Joanna Cassidy). Yay for Denis Leary, too! Jean Smart and Gregory Itzin deserve every accolade for their performances as the "First Couple" on "24". Henry Ian Cusick made the "Lost" season finale the compelling piece of television it was as Desmond so I was also very happy to see his nomination, brotha.

The Bad: Geena Davis was wooden and boring and her show tanked. Patricia Arquette or Chloe Sevigny deserved her spot. I'm also really surprised that there is no "Lost" here. "The West Wing", a weak season of "The Sopranos", and "House" (ugh) over the most brilliant show in years? What are you people, thinking? Also, Martin Sheen was totally a supporting character this season. No way does he belong in the lead category for these nominations.

The Ugly: Debra Messing? That woman hasn't been funny in years.
"The mantle of spinsterhood was definitely in her shoulders. She was twenty five and looked it."

No "Desperate Housewives" (the series and the lead actresses).

Where did Christopher Meloni come from?

The Rest of the nominations will be posted by me shortly.

Interesting things:

Last Year's Winners Patricia Arquette and Lost were not nominated.

No Lauren Graham.

The new process did nothing to support a better set of nominations.
