I think Sanjaya is adorable -- and so gay! :D

But among the guys I think, so far at least, Brandon Rogers and Phil Stacy have the best voices. Among the women, Melinda Doolittle and Lakisha Jones.

And it's odd that during the initial try-outs Simon predicted Sundance Head would be a finalist, but has trashed him ever since.

No, because they're both annoying with truly unexpectional vocal talent.

Antonella Barba should have given her spot to the other girl (was it Marissa?).

That other girl was apparently disqualified because she has dirty photos in the net.

I'm rooting for Lakisha Jones. Mama can truly sing!

Ugh. That Sanjaya guy is truly awful. Horrible voice and annoying personality. His sister sucked, too, btw.

Overall, I was pretty unimpressed with the ones chosen for the final 24. I found some of the cast-offs truly exceptional, including that cute little gay boy who kept calling his mom after every round and crying into the phone. This lot seems rather unremarkable except for a few obvious standouts.

The guys are not as good as the girls this year, you are right, but it is early, and one or two may grow in me.

Sadly, the singing cowboy didn't make it for the second year in a row...it's too bad. Tall and handsome.

I don't like half the guys as usual but the ones that annoy me most are:

Paul Kim & Sanjaya Malakar

To me, there are two types of godawful auditioneers: Camera whores who are obviously there to be the next William Hung and delusional singers. The latter is more fun to watch.

The first episode though was pretty "meh".

Paula Abdul's substance use problem is becoming even more apparent. She looked pretty bloated and out of it on last night's show. But this confirms that she has a serious problem. I wonder how much longer her handlers can cover for her.

I did watch it. I didn't notice it before, but I eventually realized last night that just because they're holding auditions in a certain city doesn't mean those auditioning will necessarily be from there. I think well over half weren't even from Minnesota (some were from Wisconsin, though).

That said, one of the worst -- the kid with the twirling sticks -- was from my hometown Burnsville. Represent!

So it seems as Randy's handlers primed him to be this year's Simon. And even Paula didn't take her nice pills. I actually liked the young woman who did a Jewel cover.

Did you see it, Eric? The Twin Cities really got trashed by the panel, although according to the promos Seattle is going to take an even harder hit on show #2.
