Woah! They replaced Craig Montgomery with a new actor...anyone know why?

I haven't watched today's episode yet, but it's probably Matt Cavenaugh as Adam Munson, half-brother of Will and Casey. Matt's previous claim to fame was playing the John Travolta role in the short-lived Broadway production of Urban Cowboy.

As for the rape issue, I don't know why it's suddenly become so prevalent, though it's always been an element of daytime: witness, for example, Roger's rape of Holly back in the 70s on Guiding Light.

Who was that hottie terrorizing Gwen on today's show?

Those previews for tomorrow looked really intense. There's been so much rape on daytime lately. I don't watch it but I know Passions is a total rape-fest (and a lesson in misogyny). Theresa's rival for Ethan (also named Gwen, as a matter of fact) literally walked away from a room where she knew Theresa was being raped and then proceeded to turn the music up loud enough so her husband couldn't hear, which is just disgusting. Sami got raped by EJ DiMera on Days and is now carrying the first Brady-DiMera baby as a result. There've also been rumors of a male-on-male rape in an upcoming storyline involving her son, which I'm not so sure is a good idea. When did this become such a prevalent convention on soaps?

Here's a better picture that includes Jennifer Landon; too bad ATWT lost the GLAAD award to All My Children.

AfterElton is confirming that Luke's love interest has been cast: the character's name is Noah, played by the quite lovely Jake Silberman, starting at the end of May; other spoilers going around the net indicate that this may be a kind of pseudo romantic triangle, with Luke initially believing Noah wants Maddie (I'm guessing Maddie's current bf Casey will be going to jail for a few months until the role is recast) when it turns it's Luke that Noah wants.

Are they killing off both Gwen and Maddy? I hope to god not...but today's preview of tomorrow's episode suggests Jade may be involved or may have just tracked them all down.

I hope so. I really can't stand the idea of completely de-sexualized gay characters on television. Note to producers: gay men do more than come out of the closet, get bashed, and act as sounding boards to straight girls and their issues.

FYI: Jennifer Landon will be creating a new role as Cleo Babbit, a down-and-out, bowling-obsessed oddball who Jade brings to Oakdale. Cleo starts airing on April 6. From what I've seen, Landon seems like one of the most talented actors on this show -- and have you ever seen her hot, gay brother? Yowsa Yowsa!

The only thing on the list that shocked me was a run by Nikki for Senate. Everything else seems a bit lame and that's the only thing that makes me regret having read that list.

I think they're setting up a big showdown over the Luke gay issue that's going to raise his celebrity and thus expose him to a bevvy of boys from which to choose.

Emily Stewart (ATWT) will be crossing over to Y&R on Tuesday. Apparently, she's looking for Alison who's caught up in some sort of porno scandal. She'll be involved with Amber Moore during her stay in Genoa City.

Interesting: According to wikipedia, several AW characters finally crossed over to ATWT upon AW's cancellation -- Lila (Lisa Peluso), Cass (Stephen Schnetzer), Vicky (Jensen Buchanan), Donna (Anna Stuart), and Jake (Tom Eplin, who is a golden god) all successfully moved into ATWT storylines. Vicky and Jake were violently murdered at some point, which is upsetting to me. Apparently, Cass Winthrop still shows up in Oakdale for trials.

B&B and Y&R regularly have characters cross from one soap to the other, even if it's just for a day. After getting over post-partum depression and shooting (and supposedly killing) a woman who'd had facial reconstructive surgery in order to look like her best friend, put her in a cage and steal her baby, Lauren Fenmore popped over to B&B for the day to visit with the Forrester clan!

The Alison Stewart ATWT-Y&R crossover was contingent on her connection to a character who had crossed over herself from B&B, Amber Moore. On Y&R, Amber has successfully glommed her way onto the Jill/Katherine s/l by making herself core to the discovery that Katherine switched Jill's baby years ago during a drunken blackout. She's manipulated and schemed her way into the Chancellor family (or so she thinks) via long-lost son, Cane. From what I've heard that's what the character does -- she finds a rich family and then fucks her way into it somehow.

If I recall correctly, AW was indeed meant to be a spin-off of ATWT, both being created by Irna Phillips and produced by P&G; but CBS passed on the show, so when NBC bought the series, CBS prohibited any ATWT characters from appearing on a now-competing serial. Still, it was pretty much established that Bay City was near Oakdale.

And, yeah, I remember when SoapNet first started up, they were broadcasting 70s era episodes of Ryan's Hope -- now that was fun to watch.

I can only presume they're going with One Tree Hill because they believe they could get higher ratings with it; I honestly wish there was a channel to watch the classic soaps I never got to see: Love of Life, The Secret Storm, The Edge of Night (only saw bits and pieces of the last few years), Peyton Place, even Another World in its famous Harding Lemay 70s era.

From what I've heard, there are huge chunks missing from the Another World library, including the famous 1970's Harding Lemay heyday. So, any network that wishes to re-air episodes of AW sequentially would have to start in 1987 where they have every episode until 1999 available, the year of its cancellation. This is what SoapNet did when they began to re-air them in July 2003. They're currently in April 1991 right on the verge of Judi Evans taking over for Cali Timmons (who I saw the other day in Georgetown!) as Paulina Cory, the arrival of Lorna and her feud with Felicia, Dean/Jenna, etc. I'm so wrapped up in the bat-shit crazy Dr. Taylor Benson fucking with her patient Sharlene Hudson s/l, I seriously don't know what I'm gonna do next month. I'm seriously pissed about it. My mother was obsessed with AW back in the day (she named my sister after Amanda Cory). What they're airing today is so much better than half of today's soaps, it's ridiculous.

I know that SoapNet had expressed an interest in showing Santa Barbara as well but there were copyright/royalty issues because of the large amount of popular music used in the show. I would definitely watch a channel devoted solely to airing classic soap operas (similar to Nick at Night or TVLand). At first, I thought that was the point of SoapNet. Unfortunately, they've decided that they're all about One Tree Hill (which should complete its run in a manner of months), 90210, The OC, and Melrose Place.

Wasn't Another World initially a spin-off of As the World Turns? I'd be interested to hear what the crossover characters and/or families were.

I appreciate the Kevin clips. I'll be watching those tonight :;):.

flipp525 wrote:Now that SOAPNet is cancelling their daily airings of classic Another World episodes on April 9th (to be hideously replaced by one of THREE daily showings of One Fucking Tree Hill -- is that even a soap), I might be in the clear to pick up another soap and from what I saw of ATWT, I liked it.

Is Brad played by the ever-wooden Austin Peck?

Yep, Brad is played by Austin Peck; Katie is played by Terri Colombino; it's the pairing of the bland and the annoying.

Here is the first of several youtube clips showing Luke coming out to Kevin, Kevin's near drowning, and Luke saving his life (all of this was occuring during the campy Slasher storyline). By the way, it looks like ATWT is getting a new opening credits sequence starting possibly today, with Luke added to the line-up of characters featured.
