And all because of one actor's death.

You're forgetting one detail, Wes: it's the fasted to $200 mil by three fucking days! Not even close!

'The Dark Knight' is the stuff of legends. Even if you hate the thing, Jesus Christ. The reception this thing has yielded is relatively unparalleled.

It's official, with the second biggest Tuesday on record, The Dark Knight has become the fastest film in history to make $200 M earning that much in only 5 days.

SPOILER? DOUBTFUL, BUT...

Most of the people I went with were sure he could come back since they never said he was dead outside of the memorial. However, this statement of his does not mean that he will appear in another Batman or that there will even be a sequel. It's just confirming his interest.

POTENTIAL SPOILER

Eckhart Agrees To Third Batman Film

23 July 2008 9:10 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Aaron Eckhart would reprise his role from The Dark Knight - because working with Christian Bale is "phenomenal".

Eckhart, who plays District Attorney Harvey Dent in the sequel, confesses he "absolutely" would star in a third Batman film.

He tells WENN, "To work with Christian (Bale) all over again, and the cast, would be phenomenal. I think this movie is a movie of a lifetime."

Oh, why, that's Batman's most twisted villain.

He'd most likely be a security guard for the Gotham Museum and suffers from dementia after a blow to the head. Now he believes himself to be King Tut. He breaks into the museum one night and steals a mummy's carcass and wears that as his costume. He wreaks havoc over Gotham by performing ancient mummifying rituals (such as pulling out the brain through the nose) on his living victims.

Here's my take on the villains:

The Riddler - calm and collective; severe O.C.D.; mob informant
Mad Hatter - child molester with an obsession for Lewis Carrol
Bane - not as buff as in the comics; drug addict with fast reflexes; intelligent schemer
Black Mask - Bruce Wayne's childhood friend turned mobster
Killer Croc - man with horrible skin condition; cannibal
Catwoman - burglar; love interest to Batman/Bruce; becomes ally temporarily

I remember reading that Nolan doesn't think Catwoman fits in. I hope he reconsiders.

Harley Quinn as a woman obsessed with the Joker would be amazing. A Joker groupie. I've heard about Bane too.

EDIT - "The Bat" now stands at $182 mil. Fourth biggest Monday opening. 'Shrek 2' is the biggest movie of the decade (if you can believe it) at $441 mil domestic. If 'The Dark Knight' becomes the highest-grossing movie of the decade, then it is because people went back again and again to see it. And if that's the case, then it has to be considered an Oscar contender. It has to.

SPOILERS....I think the pencil disappearing scene was one of my favorite Joker moments. It was just so unexpected.

There was one very oblique reference that could be viewed as a foreshadowing of Catwoman as the next villain, but who do you see coming in for the third installment? Aren't the Riddler and Catwoman both ripe for re-tooling and re-examination after the respective Jim Carrey/Halle Berry raping of the original characters?

I've heard Harley Quinn, the Mad Hatter, Bane, Catman, among others mentioned for his next main foe. With Rachel now gone, Bruce Wayne needs a female interest. I think Selina Kyle's story could be told in a very interesting way by Nolan. Also, it seems like a great time to get into who the Riddler really is. Not some freak with orange Manic-Panic in his hair and green tights, but perhaps some insidious serial killer who leaves behind clues/riddles and is named "the Riddler" by Gothan City News. Maybe he's killing prostitutes and Selina Kyle narrowly escapes becoming one of his victims and Catwoman is born in the process.

Hmmm...

Bardem (psycho killer) = Ledger (psycho killer clown)
Brolin (welder hunted by the killer) = Eckhart (DA hunted by the killer)
Jones (sheriff) = Bale (vigilante)

Both of them are ensemble performances. Canny...

Bale's stepmother is Gloria Steinem (although his father is now deceased).

Well, to be frank, I think a good amount of the Academy doesn't know the difference either.
