Could we do a poll of worst director winner except for Howard...that would be a tougher choice for me.

It's not that we don't think Howard will win, his is definitely the aberration, but it would be interesting to see what the few dissenters would be...after all, A Beautiful Mind did not wholly conquer the Adapted Screenplay poll.

IMO, this is a great crop of winners (Ron Howard notwithstanding)

Do we really need a WORST Best Director poll since we all know who's going to win that?

Though this was overall an auspicious decade in the category, I find, oddly, not once did my pick for the year match the Academy's. A further oddity: four of the winners WERE my picks, but in different years -- Lee in 2000, Jackson (tied with Altman) in '01, Eastwood in '03 and Scorsese in '04.

I considered the Coens, but, deciding their work is more script-dependent, ultimately landed with Ang Lee.

The real best director of the decade is, of course, Alfonso Cuaron for Children of Men.

I voted for the Coens, who I think directed the most singular film. But I found most of these wins pretty happy moments, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this one all over the map.

I assume there won't be much competition for the Worst Best Director of the Decade, though.

Jackson for his combined achievement in bringing that trilogy to the screen.

Followed by Polanski.

Peter Jackson. Polanski, Lee and Scorsese were also great choices.

Picture breaks with Director three times this decade, all for the better. It's down to the Coen Brothers and Polanski in my estimation, and while I have no doubt that Roman will take this one, I'm going to side with Joel & Ethan.
