And, speaking of holiday spirit, here's the Red Cross/Red Crescent donation page. So far, 3,500 fatalities have been accounted for in the terrible cyclone in Bangladesh, and up to 10,000 are expected. If not the Red Cross, then give to Unicef, or Habitat for Humanity or Doctors Without Borders. Even ten dollars would make a difference.

As perverse as this may sound, there is some good news in this story of the cyclone. For Bangladesh, the death toll is on the low end of the scale. Two previous cyclones in the past 40 years left a death toll in the hundreds of thousands. Part of this is because this cyclone hit a less densely populated area of the country. But also, Bangladesh has been struggling to improve public facilities and infrastructure over the years. As horrible as the deaths are, let's hope that the reletively lower magnitude is a sign of progress that will go on.

And don't forget to clean out your cupboards and give to your local food banks.

My favorite holiday of the year: it's all about history and food! And, of course, coming together in understanding, acceptance and love. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!
