I'm guessing you did. She was up there for quite a while. Her speech was a little rambling but beautifully gracious and moving.Hustler wrote:I found weird that Redgrave´s speech was so short unless I watched a cut version.rudeboy wrote:...and the Redgrave tribute was wonderful.
BAFTA Winners - from Movie City Indie
They always do that, Jack. It's very annoying having to avoid the news channels while waiting to watch the show on the two hour delay on BBC One. The awards they cut are sometimes surprising - this year they didn't show cinematography or music, but left in the two awards to The Young Victoria. Of course, they left in both of Avatar's techs.
This was, I think, the most enjoyable BAFTAs in a while. Some of Jonathan Ross's gags barely raised a titter, he's always funnier when he has a bit of slack (he's been on surveillance since the Beeb suspended him for a few months a year or so back) and some of the presenters were awfully stilted, but the winners were for the most part worthy (having finally seen An Education I have to unpatriotically declare that Mulligan is a glaring exception to that), there were some classy speeches, and the Redgrave tribute was wonderful.
I've been trying to work out what Jim Cameron's partner said to him when Bigelow won best director. Whatever, he looked increasingly miserable as the evening went on.

I'd like to commend the BAFTAs for, at least for ten minutes, abandoning the universal goal of predicting the Oscars and saluting some of their countrymen. Colin Firth's win was a tonic (as was his speech), followed nicely by Mulligan's. It reminded me of days gone by, when each group had a separate personality, when many different people had a chance at winning something over the course of a season, and only the truly exceptional swept the boaords.
Then it was back to business, with The Hurt Locker being apparently the only movie anyone saw last year.
Sonic, nice snark.

The BAFTA show needs a revamp or it's seriously going to lose audiences. Did they really televise the honorary fellowship? WTF? Seriously, who could sit through all that? I'm sure within two minutes television viewers were saying "Vanessa who?" and flipping to the U.S.-Canada hockey game. The producers should award the recipient at a banquet or something, but what right do they have to hold up the show?
And what's with all those names in the In Memorioum section? On and on and on... Look, I'm sorry they died, but can't they just pick 25 of the biggest names and put the rest on a web-page or something? And why didn't the audience applaud during the tributes? Do they not care?
Why are there only five nominees for Best Picture? That's snobbish. How can they say these are truly the best films of the year when some of my favorites were left out?
Thank god that's over with. On to the Academy Awards. Now THERE'S an awards show! Woo-hoo!!

BAFTA opened voting on the Orange Rising Star award to internet voters...so, knowing that, did you expect anyone other than Kristen Stewart to win the award?
