Well, I think part of Hudson's problem (I also noticed an issue early in the song) was that her earpiece may not have been working. I'm sure if there was feedback, noise or nothing at all it would be distracting. She fidgeted with her ear at one point in the performance, which didn't seem natural.

But, considering that Danny Gokey has a similar diction problem (or at least a pronunciation problem), I'd say he and Cyrus are in good company.

Cyrus is awful. No diction, horrible posture and she looks like a little beaver. Jennifer Hudson outshined and outclassed her in every way imaginable (even though her performance, admittedly, wasn't even that great last night). How someone like Cyrus has a career is a completely unimaginable joke. God, at least we followed something halfway talented in the girl pop genre back in the day. Like The Bangles.

Danny Gokey is so fucking douchey. I want him gone.

She's 16. You have to be at least 16 to be eligible for the show.

Well... we're not exactly her target demographic, you know.

She's not just white washed, but her vocals are atrocious and, if she were competing on AI, she would have been voted off early.

Maybe, but not many now-legendary artists would make it far on that show.

Greg, I've heard her music and she's not country. That's definitely pop music. And if she sticks around, she'll grow out of her nasal phase. What we're hearing is touches of the little girl in her voice. What is she, 15 years old?

Speaking of which, I really think they should have Celebrity American Idol. Get all these really popular acts together and have them compete to win a prize. Run it in concurrence with the regular show or in the fall instead of spring...I'd love to see some people who think they are the shit voted off for being stupid...

Last night on American Idol was the first time I heard Miley Cyrus sing. I found her quite nasal even for a country singer.

Penelope's opinion, of course. I, personally, think it's an amazing song. Melodic, hopeful, contemplative. One of the best Oscar winning moments for me emotionally. The reception at the Oscars, the emotionalism of the speech. I can't remember feeling that way about a specific win in many years.

It's an unlistenable dirge.

I can't stand Danny, but he looked about 1,000 times better tonight without his signature dyke glasses. Something felt really off-key about his entire performance tonight, though. Not a winner. Simon's commentary was so non-committal ("It was boring, but I could tell you were singing to your dead wife so kudos for that.")

Kris is so damn fuckable. Great voice, too.

If we were to miss one night, this sounds like it would be the one. Have to go to a committee meeting. But I HATE all those songs, as we hear them endlessly. So I don't care.
But I am surprised that you don't give Lil higher grades: obviously she hasn't learned to do what the judges have been begging her to do for weeks. Too bad.

1. Adam - "Born to Be Wild" -- Another fantastic, electrifying performance: A

2. Anoop - "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" -- One of Bryan Adams' least impressive songs given an impressive vocal performance: B+

3. Allison - "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" -- An overheated version, but at least she gave a solid performance throughout: B

4. Matt - "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman" -- One of Bryan Adams' more impressive songs given an unimpressive vocal performance: C

5. Kris - "Falling Slowly" -- I hate the song to begin with it, and he did nothing to endear it to me: C

6. Danny - "Endless Love" -- A scratchy, synthetic performance, apparently done in the wrong key: D

7. Lil - "The Rose" -- Simply abominable: F

Adam - "Born to Be Wild" - The verse was better than the refrain, but it was another tremendous performance.

Kris - "Falling Slowly" - So, the intro reel worried me b/c I love this song and butchering it will not be good for my opinion of him...Much better than I expected. He stuck to the power of the melody and only did a teensy amount of alterations.

Anoop - "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" - This is probably the best he's ever been. He obviously wants to stick around for awhile longer.

Lil - "The Rose" - So, now she's tackling Bette Midler...this could go badly, but let's see...I don't know what you call those wavers in note, but they are annoying. She was off key early on. She did things to the song that were unnecessary. She should have taken a page from Kris' book and stuck with the power of the melody. Better than many of her previous choices, but not great as she's been suggested to be.

Danny - "Endless Love" - Finally, someone else who realizes there were songs made for movies before the 1990s. Now, as to the vocal: come on "Jou're"? He has the worst phrasing and diction I think I've ever heard...He was messing stuff up some other week, too, so...It was decent in parts, but overall I didn't care a lot for it. His falsetto was off.

Allison - "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" - Such a bland song, there was virtually nothing she could make it good. Sadly, she didn't.

Giraud - "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman" - I always thought I hated I Do It For You, but Anoop made me like it better. However, Matt has made me like this song even less than I already do.
