81st Oscars: In Memoriam
I thought Latifiah did a nice job with the song; and I agree with everyone who said they were annoyed by the camera angles during this sequence. I also thought the angles used during some of the musical numbers was distracting, too.

Alain Robbe-Grillet, John Phillip Law, Youssef Chahine, Bill Melendez, Humberto Solas, Rudy Ray Moore, Jun Ichikawa, Joseph Pevney, Ann Savage, Bruce Conner; none of them very surprising as they didn't make big Oscar impact.OscarGuy wrote:Who did they leave out?
Maybe Conner had the greatest; his montage film style is clearly an inspiration to Chuck Workman (who demonstrated proof of his familiarity with Conner in the Source), and isn't Workman the man most responsible for the kinds of montages seen at Oscar shows? I don't have the historical background knowledge of the history of these telecasts to know for sure.

I suspect they hoped that having Queen Latifah sing live it would persuade the audience not to clap. Didn't work.HarryGoldfarb wrote:What happened to the non-hearable applauses thing?
My other complaint was that many times the video montage was so far from the camera that I couldn't read the words--this didn't help when I was trying to identify the behind-the-scenes people.
