Happy Birthday!

Thanks again, guys. The bulk of the celebrating was over the weekend - I'm still eating leftover cake, but I need to get back to my diet tomorrow!

Happy Birthday, Magilla! Hope it's as celebratory or as a low-key as you wanted it to be.

(You share it with the great Australian film critic Adrian Martin!)

Hope your special day is like Hillary Brooke, Veda Ann Borg, Marie Windsor and Lee Patrick film festivals melded into one gigantic throbbing whole.

Happy Birthday!

Thanks, guys. I'm officially a senior citizen now. I get to pay double for the same health care I had before sans dental insurance, which I still have to shop around for.

I can get a senior citizen discount at Denny's if I show them proof I'm an old fart when I order so they can serve me baby sized portions.

I can get senior citizen discounts on planes, but again if I tell them up front, probably so they can put me on a coast-to-coast journey with at last three stopovers and changes of planes with seats in the middle on all of the flights.

Nothing changes when you reach my age except the way the world looks at you and it ain't pretty.

I keep thinking of "No Time at All" the song Irene Ryan sang in Pippin - "I've known the fears of 66 years, I've had troubles and tears by the score, but all I'd trade them for is 67 more" - before dropping dead on stage and being nominated posthumously for a Tony.

I don't think I'd want to be around for another 65 years unless modern medicine finds a way of slowing down the aging process, but I do want to be around for the 100th anniversary of the Academy Awards and that's another 20 years away so I'm far from sitting down and waiting for the undertaker.

And I'm still younger than Mick Jagger and Robert De Niro.
