John Williams' nomination for The Last Jedi is even more ridiculous than his nomination for The Force Awakens. Just a collection of recycled themes.

Re: 2017 Oscar Nominations
Biggest surprise to me is the strength of Phantom Thread.
Second biggest surprise is Three Billboards doing better in the tech awards nominations than thought, but missing out on Best Director.
Biggest disappointment has to be Call Me By Your Name missing out on Direction and both supporting actors.
Unless I'm forgetting something, Gary Oldman and Lesley Manville are the first exes to be nominated in the acting categories in the same year.
Also unless I'm forgetting something, Christopher Plummer, already the oldest acting winner is now the oldest acting nominee as well at 88.

So, The Shape Of Water is the only film to have nominations for directing, writing, and editing, making it the heavy favorite to win Best Picture.
