Other than this, how many other times has the wrong envelope been given. Someone said Sammy Davis Jr. got the wrong envelope sometime back in the 1960s.

So, I would like to know if anyone here saw La La Land win Best Picture, and then immediately turned the set off.

Largest sign that the Academy membership is now much more sophisticated.
11 years ago, they couldn't award best picture to the much more vanilla Brokeback Mountain.

Reminds me of the myth perpetrated by Rex Reed that Maria Tomei really didn't win for My Cousin Vinny.inky wrote:Reminds me of the Oscar Ceremony scene in Naked Gun 33 1/3 ...
For a moment I thought maybe Beatty and Dunaway couldn't read the card and were winging it.

Re: 89th Oscars: Best Picture
This was actually quite a flop for La La Land. 14 nominations and it couldn't win Best Picture? And this just felt cruel, having it snatched out of its hands like that. And I don't mean metaphorically.
Can't they be co-winners?

Too bad something like that didn't happen in the general election...

Re: 89th Oscars: Best Picture
So this is a four-year streak: Both Independent Spirit Awards & Oscars agree with the Best Picture winners!
