Re: Broadcast Film Critics (Critics' Choice) Awards
I'm sorry but I can no longer take these guys seriously. Not only are they turning into the MTV Movie Awards, they are not even "broadcast" critics any more, not when they include bloggers and members of teh International Press Academy in their membership.

Re: Broadcast Film Critics (Critics' Choice) Awards
Despite all the love for LES MISERABLES, no Adapted Screenplay nomination. Hmmmmm. I would absolutely love for THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER to be nominated, but I highly doubt that will happen. LINCOLN, ARGO, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK seem like locks, while LIFE OF PI and BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD have the best shot at the next two slots.
It seems like Harvey Weinstein has made a serious mistake by pushing DJANGO UNCHAINED to this year. Assuming these nominations are similar to the Oscars, what could have been a major Oscar contender is going to only earn a single nomination for Original Screenplay. I am not sure how crowded 2013 will be, but Harvey should have done with this film what Warner Bros. did with THE GREAT GATSBY.

Re: Broadcast Film Critics (Critics' Choice) Awards
Wouldn't Wallis be more vulnerable? How often do child actors get nominated for Lead? Jackie Cooper in 1932. Keisha Castle-Hughes in 2004. There is great controversy about how much a 5 or 6 year old can do on their own in acting terms. I don't want to be unfair, but 6 years old is a tough call, especially for a lead nomination. I can buy a 10 year old being able to play act more consciously, but somehow I doubt the Academy is going to give one of those slots to someone so young.mlrg wrote:Best actress: delete Watts and you have your Oscar nominees.

Re: Broadcast Film Critics (Critics' Choice) Awards
I mostly agree with Sonic, though I haven't watched my screener for The Impossible yet; however, I've been reading she's quite good in it.
Dench, I think will very likely be nominated for Skyfall. She has been the heart and soul of the modern Bond films and this will be her chance to get that nomination for my favorite performance in any of the recent Bond films. That being said, she could miss out only by the fact that the Academy resists franchises like mad. They went out of their way to ignore Star Trek despite its huge critic bona fides (a move I'm glad they made).
Here's something I haven't seen mentioned yet: No Paul Thomas Anderson in Best Director. I also think that Cotillard may be the one sitting out of this Best Actress slate. If there's soft support for The Master, Phoenix might be left out and of all of these.
The two I'm most hopeful the Academy DOESN'T do are Alan Arkin in Argo (it's not so much a performance as a laugh track) and Bardem in Skyfall, who makes me cringe everytime I watch him. It's bad enough that his non-performance in No Country won the Oscar. I don't want to see the Academy reward him for playing this particular role. I know others said it wasn't "gay is the villain," but I have a hard time NOT seeing it that way.

Probably, but I'm holding out hope. I don't think it's too crazy an idea to see Dench nominated for this.Sup actress: delete Dench and you have your Oscar nominees

Oh, and if THIS group resisted nominating either Hitchcock lead, I really just hope everyone else will too. No need for place-filler this year.

Re: Broadcast Film Critics (Critics' Choice) Awards
So...basically nothing we don't already know.
About the only thing worth noting is that Ann Dowd seems to be more than just a fluky one-off, and could possibly make some real headway in that wide-open Supporting Actress race.
And, I guess the Skyfall acting nominations -- which bloggers had brought up as possibilities, but which I pretty much instantly dismissed -- prove this Bond does have more legs than many recent installments, though I still doubt either will make it to the Academy.

Re: Broadcast Film Critics (Critics' Choice) Awards
Are these nominations more retarded than usual this year? I mean, "Best Actress in an Action Movie"? Seriously? They seem very "People's Choice Awards", or, more so than usual.

Sup actor: delete Bardem and you have your Oscar nominees (surprisingly, no one from Django here….)

I like your love for Amour, Big Magilla - but I'm sure that you still haven't seen it...

Re: Broadcast Film Critics (Critics' Choice) Awards
I was going to wait for a few more entries, but this is my thinking as of this morning:
My predictions have been up at the CinemaSight main page for a while now.
I've had very little tweaking to do since the last publication before the precursors began.
For Best Picture, Amour; Argo ; Les Miserables and Zero Dark Thirty have been there all along. Lincoln has come and gone and come back again. Others are the usual suspects I'm less certain about. As I think I've made clear in other threads I think Les Miserables is the one to beat.
For Best Director, I like the directors of the five films I mentioned with Michael Haneke back on the list and Ang Lee off of it. As of now, I see Haneke taking the prize.
For Best Actor, I'm ready to reinstate Joaquin Phoenix over Denzel Washington who hasn't gotten much traction at all in the year-end polling. I refuse to budge on Daniel Day-Lewis, John Hawkes, Hugh Jackman and my early pick to win - Jean-Louis Trintignant.
For Best Actress, I'm still solid behind Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence, Helen Mirren and Emmanuelle Riva with Riva my early pick to win.
For Best Supporting Actor, I'm replacing my tentative nomination of Samuel L. Jackson with Eddie Redmayne while still backing Alan Arkin, Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Tommy Lee Jones, who is my early pick to win.
For Best Supporting Actress I'm ready to reinstate Amy Adams over Jacki Weaver while still confident of Sally Field, Anne Hathaway, Helen Hunt and Maggie Smith, though the latter is vulnerable. Hathaway should win it unless they really, really, really like Sally Field who seemed like an unlikely two-time winner let alone a three-time winner.

So, what did I get right?
