Actually, when I tried to recall if I might have said something like you mentioned, it occurred to me I might have been disappointed not to see Swinton get a boost -- but I wouldn't have expressed that at the time of LA voting, because I didn't see Julia until Christmas week. That I said it after the second win, in January, is more comprehensible, and, I guarantee you, wholly motivated by my affection for Swinton, whose great performance was exactly the sort that needed critical boosting and didn't get it.Okri wrote:Okay, I'm an ass to bring it up, but this was the comment I was referring to.
post-National Society.Swinton goes the season without managing a win (almost only counting in horseshoes). A second win for an ineligible actress is vaguely disappointing when they might have boosted someone deserving. (I know, I generally argue we shouldn't ask critics to pimp for Oscar nods; fine -- I contradict myself).
Carlos aired Oct 11, 2010 (over three nights)
I'm alot cooler with this early in a season, especially in a year where there are plenty of solid candidates who don't need the visibility.
I think October is about when Carlos was exhibited here, at the Lincoln Plaza. Is the mere fact it was on TV near the same time disqualifying? Is everything that shows on IFC in Theatres ineligible?
