I had thought The Shop on Main Street was an original screenplay, but according to Wikipedia it was published in short story form by the screenwriter several years earlier.

Okay, I see that there's a slot available in best director, but it says locked. On the presumption that it's not locked....

Replace Michael Mann with David O'Russell, Three Kings. He may be an asshole, he may get into fist fights with George Clooney, but his handling of this war film is top notch.
