To each his own, Cam, but I can't believe anyone would find Phil attractive. He looks like an adult version of the leukemia poster child. Creepy.

Chris Richardson, however, is adorable, if somewhat limited in the talent department.

Kaytodd is right: Sanjaya is not gay. He's a eunuch, a castrato (without the vocal training), a conversation piece. And definitely nonthreatening, as Damien said. He's the contestant whom many will love to hate, and whom others will vote for in order to keep pissing those people off. Simon is wrong...

In an interview on Fresh Air Guillermo del Toro said that he intended that the film be open to dual interpretations (i.e., a "real" fairy tale vs. just the girl's imagination). This ambiguity is one of the things I really liked about this film

Paula Abdul's substance use problem is becoming even more apparent. She looked pretty bloated and out of it on last night's show. But this confirms that she has a serious problem. I wonder how much longer her handlers can cover for her.

Nice to see the adorable (and talented) James McAvoy nominated. However, as someone noted earlier, it's absurd to place him in the supporting category. He's the central character in the movie, and on screen practically the whole time. He's not even a kid. What gives?

The audiences loved this movie, the guilds love this movie, aaaannnd... the critics love it. And not only does nearly everyone on this board not love it, you all despise it. I don't think I've ever seen such a disconnect. Anyone want to offer any explanations? Methinks that Little Miss has just got...

Sabin, I agree that Fatal Attraction was unintentionally campy, and that Notes on a Scandal probably wouldn't have worked even if it had attempted to be over-the-top campy. And of course Lyne's movie was atrocious and Notes has a better pedigree: better acting, better writing, etc. But I still thin...

I'd be more interested in discussing whether Notes on a Scandal is homophobic if it weren't such a ridiculous movie. At least Fatal Attraction had the good sense to be campy and fun.

While I didn't find the story all that compelling--it's pretty typical dystopian fare--, this movie is cinematically brilliant. I hope Lubezki gets his Oscar this year. The camerawork is just astounding.

The "acting" part of Jennifer Hudson's performance was certainly not great, though I thought she pulled off a pretty natural style. Regardless, her overall PERFORMANCE was pretty extraordinary, IMO, and I will be pleased when she walks off with the Oscar. She performed the hell out of her...

After watching this, I kept thinking that I wish they'd just hand the footage over to another editor, because there seems to be a good movie in there somewhere. The pacing in this film is just horrible (it completely runs out of steam at the end), and it can't seem to settle on the right tone. Ther...
