Zahveed, I "enjoyed" it, at least in parts. I guess I wasn't enjoying myself while cringing whenever Helena Bonham Carter sang, however. The music is still glorious, even if it is truncated and not sung anywhere near its potential. This is a work that could have been so much more, as it w...

I haven't seen enough of these to place a vote. It's difficult to imagine, though, that any of these are better than Grand Illusion, a truly great work of art.

They can't work for the Times and be for Kucinich (in print, anyway) because the New York Times is overly invested in staying in the mainstream. It's a left-of-center--for this country--mainstream, but mainstream nonetheless.

I agree, Kaytodd about the wonderful casting in this movie. I disagree, though, about the actress who played the mother. She was a weak link (albeit a small one, since it was a small, non-essential part) in the movie for me, stood out as too much of a caricature.

I totally agree, Penelope. Waitress is a slight but enjoyable film, mostly thanks to Keri Russell. She is a revelation in this, and should be generating more awards buzz.

Have you guys noticed that arch-enemy Giuliani is tumbling in the polls? This would be fortuitous news except that he is being overtaken by the even more heinous Huckabee (you know, the compassionate guy who wants to round up all HIV+ folks and put them in concentration camps). Twit Romney is withi...

I think Michael Clayton may very well be this year's Erin Brockovich Michael Clayton is a muuuuuuuuch better movie than Erin Brockovich. Not that Michael Clayton is any great piece of art, but it's a solid, well-paced, intelligent film (its biggest weakness is Tom Wilkinson's hammed up performance)...

Any of the New Yorkers (or visitors) on the board get a chance to see this? I'm not going to be able to get to New York to see it so was hoping to experience it vicariously. I am one of the legions who adored Lauren Ambrose in Six Feet Under. I saw her in Awake and Sing! on Broadway last year and w...

Damien, if you're interested in gay genetics, this article in New York Magazine is much more comprehensive, and pretty fascinating.

Besides The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, I spent hours as a kid watching Charles Nelson Reilly in this kids' show called Lidsville, a sort of cousin to H.R. Pufnstuf. I liked him for his silly laugh, which was almost as fun as Joanne Worley's on Laugh In.

A letter to the editor in today's San Francisco Chronicle: Editor -- Like so many, I am saddened by the awful events at Virginia Tech. But I also feel a troubling anger that is not directed at the killer himself. I mean no disrespect to those now grieving their lost loved ones. However, I am deeply...
