Re: NYFCC Winners
Mister Tee wrote Without Michelle Williams in play, I have no idea who is going to win Best Supporting Actress. There isn't really a frontrunner or any consensus on who the final five are going to be. It could happen vs. eventual nope. I’m really not totally convinced that Michelle Williams is out ...

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2022
THE MENU is a fun, thrilling ride that never goes completely off the rails owing mainly to a committed cast and concept. Hong Chau is *amazing* as the Hawthorne restaurant’s “hostess” and provided some of the biggest laugh-out-loud moments (“These are called ‘tortillas’”) while Janet McTeer’s food c...

Re: She Said reviews
Think Mulligan will be nominated/win? I don’t really see that happening. She’s dependably great in it but it’s really just not that kind of performance. If anyone is nominated, it should be Jennifer Ehle. She might just give too small of a performance but I found her very powerful and her character...

Re: She Said reviews
Strong and tight film in the vein of investigative journalism flicks of the past. This has Spotlight vibes right down to the scenes happening in doorways after cold knocking. The escalating horror about how much Harvey Weinstein has gotten away with is well reflected in the performances of Carey Mul...

Re: New Developments III
The Democrats' almost giddy celebration, though, is premature. This is absurd. It has yet to be seen how this actually shakes out since control of both chambers is still technically pending, but Democrats are poised to have delivered the best midterms to a sitting president in a generation. I don’t...

Re: New Developments III
I know it sounds insane, but I stick with my original prediction that the Democrats retain control of the House (with 220 seats, I predict).

Re: New Developments III
So…would anyone like to know who I think is winning an Oscar this year?
I’m obviously not surprised by what happened last night. It’s exactly what I said would happen.
Biden's on track to having one of the best midterms of any president since JFK.

Re: Jimmy Kimmel to host the 2023 Oscars
I'm seeing some groaning around the web about this -- because, you know: the Internet -- but, far as I'm concerned, Kimmel has done (by sliding Oscar host scale) a perfectly good job when he's hosted. Really? I think he’s fucking annoying. Did you see his little stunt of lying down on the stage dur...

Re: New Developments III
I wish it worked like that, Sabin. But I’ve told you all I “know” for the moment. I wasn’t thinking Tim Ryan in OH. Something more along the lines of an Evan McMullin in UT victory. Out-of-nowhere shit. After I saw a sneak preview of The Eyes of Tammy Faye in September last year, I knew Jessica Chas...

Re: New Developments III
My predictions is a 49-51 Senate with Republicans picking up Nevada. I could also see Maggie Hassan losing (48-52) Jon Ralston, the best poller in NV, has already called this race for Cortez-Masto and he’s never been wrong. You might want to re-think this particular prediction. I know this will mea...

Re: The Banshees of Inisherin reviews
I saw this last night and echo a lot of what Sabin and Tee have said, especially about the performances. In a perfect world, all four - Farrell, Gleeson, Condon, and Keoghan - would be nominated. I think I might have the softest spots for Condon and Keoghan who were simply perfect in their roles, es...

Re: 2022 Gotham Nods
I’ve only read the book Women Talking and Buckley’s and Whishaw’s characters definitely stood out but I think Claire Foy has the most classic “Oscar moments” in the text and Rooney Mara (a lead) has a huge role in the ensemble.

Re: The Official Review Thread of 2022
One performance that's far too small for a mention but delighted me to no end was Alicia Eriksson as the crew person (the one with the tight pony tail) who finds it impossible to politely decline a wealthy passenger's insistence that she go for a swim. Agreed. Also, agreed. She was wonderful. It’s ...
