Hehe... You don't remember my posts correctly, Sonic Youth - from such a faithful follower I expect more. I said that "Seabiscuit" was one of the worst BEST PICTURE nominees ever, if not the worst. And it's true. And I said that that movie with the long title was overrated, but not one of...

About which movie in the past few years? And even if I did, there can always be a "worse" one the following year. But you would probably like it.

I just saw the worst movie EVER nominated for an Oscar (and this includes Italy's "Mondo Cane" and 1948's "Romance on the High Seas"): "North Country".

Sterling's "big scene" in The High and The Mighty is the movie's best (only?) really good moment - realistic, raw, beautiful acting from an undeservedly forgotten but obviously talented, unusual actress. Eva Marie Saint deserved the Oscar of course, but Jan Sterling would have been my sec...

Yes, I saw it recently on dvd too, and I found Sterling really impressive in that scene.

Did you see "The High and the Mighty", Penelope? Jan Sterling is much better than Claire Trevor in that one.

I guess many critics were looking forward to finally find a new Woody Allen movie to celebrate as a return to great filmmaking form after so many disappointing movies. And while "Match Point" definitely isn't a bad movie, even I, like Penelope, after reading so many glowing reviews expect...

Oh yes, she doesn't act in movies often anymore, but she's still a legend on stage, and when she was younger she had some great, usually supporting roles in films with important directors (Visconti, Bertolucci, Bolognini, De Sica...). She used to be excellent playing tormented, neurotic women, but ...

Nice to see a beautiful Italian movie in your ballot, Sabin - and our legendary Adriana Asti, too.

Sonic Youth, you have made some good choices too - Corinna Harfouch WAS excellent - but seriously, I'm interested - so you REALLY like Dakota Fanning..? I thought you were joking.

It is also possible, of course, that some straight viewers feel more confortable with the second part of the movie - which is more about unhappy homosexuals dealing with a hostile society and its rules - than with the first part, with the two boys merrily having sex with each other on the mountains...

Jake Gyllenhaal gives the best performance in the movie. But of course Heath Ledger got the better, more interesting character - actually one of the best roles for a young actor in recent memory - and did a surprisingly good job with it, so I can understand why most viewers (and critics) can mistak...

Nice to see that I'm not alone in finding this movie so fake and irritating. Pamela-Marie especially has expressed much better than I could the same reactions I had watching it. (I have to admit that I saw The Family Stone in Beirut, maybe not the best place to appreciate this celebration of Americ...

You know how much I usually like to agree with you, Penelope, but at least about Dermot Mulroney I will be completely honest and tell you that I find him a terrible, terrible actor - only slightly better than Tab Hunter.

Some slight spoilers maybe. Well, I don't know - let me at least hope that this is not the typical American family, but the kind of family Americans LIKE to think they have - maybe a bit messy but ultimately open minded, politically correct, and warm hearted (it's interesting that by the end nobody...

Was I the only one to hate this loving, tolerant, politically correct American family (which may love, and my god how it shows it!, its gay, deaf son and his BLACK lover - Stanley Kramer would love that - but would probably vote for Bush if it had a third chance to do so?). The cardboard character ...
