Is the Academy unduly afraid of the precursors?
I'm beginning to feel really uncomfortable with this hyper accelerated AMPAS voting timeline. Would it have been terrible to give members two more weeks? How many more screeners might otherwise have been viewed? Could the extra time have been used to make wiser and more deliberative voting choices? ...

Steve Martin to receive 2015 AFI Life Achievement Award
Steve Martin will be the 43rd recipient of this award next June. He is among only nine honorees who have never won a competitive Oscar -- the others being Alfred Hitchcock, Fred Astaire, Lillian Gish, Gene Kelly, Barbara Stanwyck, Kirk Douglas, Harrison Ford, George Lucas. Incredibly, he is the only...

Re: R.I.P. Robin Williams
A writer at Vanity Fair makes the argument that Robert Altman's film Popeye (1980) showed Robin Williams at his very best.
I remember the TV ads when this came out but never saw it.

Re: R.I.P. Gordon Willis
No scandal. His lack of nominations for The Godfather; Godfather II; Annie Hall and Manhattan raised eyebrows at the time, but it was put off to his not being particularly well liked by the established d.p.'s of the day, particularly the old-time members of the Academy who considered the New York b...

The FBI was a great series.
I so enjoyed it as a kid.
And, EZ Jr. never received a single Emmy nom for his work on this show.

I'm sure I saw a photo of Mickey attending a party at the recent Academy Awards.

Thanks

R.I.P. Bill Miller
This age of You Tube has been a godsend to Oscar watchers. Reliving past Academy Awards moments is a great trip down Sentimental Boulevard. In the 1950 and 60s, presenters called out, “…and the envelope please.” Then, a man by the name of Bill Miller would deliver the envelope and quickly slide away...

Re: Trivia should have its own place.
Someone noted at another site that this is the 5th time the two male acting awards have gone to the same film. There are twice as many (10) cases where the two female acting winners were from the same film. 1938 - Bette Davis & Fay Bainter (Jezebel) 1939 - Vivien Leigh & Hattie McDaniel (Go...

Re: Best Actress
Meryl Streep has been nominated for so many awards, so many times that I always recognize her husband Don Gummer whenever awards season arrives.
Oh, there he is, looking older. See you again next year, Don.

Thought Ellen did a very good job as host...10x better than Seth last year.
I think the ratings share should be higher than last year also.

Thought it kind of odd that Kim Novak got this category.
As the star of one of the greatest American movies ever made, especially for it's visual excellence, you'd think she'd get to present Cinematography.
