It makes me sad when people get upset at the activities of this board and leave. I have met very very few people here who I have not enjoyed and cherished...I wish filmgabber a happy birthday and hope he is doing well whereever he is. He has a great birthday, as he shares it with my wife, so I know...

Actually, the title of this topic is misrepresenting. The list is The 50 Best High School Movies, not teen movies. Not that it makes the list any better, but it shows why certain films, which may be teen films but don't deal with High School, are not on the list.

This may have come up before, but I can't find it. I was curious as to what actor has the distinction to be in the most Best Picture winners. I did a little research, but I am sure I missed some. 4 BEST PICTURES Frank Baker - How Green Was My Valley, Mrs. Miniver, Around the World in 80 Days, My Fa...

I'm surprised at the extremely low box-office for Hollywoodland. I saw it Friday night with an almost full theater. And I echo what everyone else has said here exactly. A sad start to the post-Labor Day film season.

That picture makes me even less excited about the film than I already was...a watered down version of a watered down musical with uninspiring casting and a hack director...the only saving grace could be the presence of Christopher Walken, although I think he to is miscast.

BJ, I second that option. I can't imagine these take that much room, and to me are an important and vital part of this board. Even if I don't reply, everytime I watch an older film I check those Oscar Shouldabeens tosee what other people on the board thought of it in terms of that years films. I wi...

This is a post more directly aimed at some of our elder board members, who will hopefully have a clear recollection. I watched Fail Safe on TV last night, and found it a monumental achievement in filmmaking. I tend to like Lumet's films (sorry Damien), but found this much different then his other w...

These lists seem to be overly influenced by the cinematic counterparts of the cited books. Are Ben-Hur, The Godfather, The Third Man, The Graduate, Trainspotting or Schindler's Ark really masterpieces I have to read before I die, or did they just make some good film? I've read The Godfather, The Th...

This makes me sad. Only 43. I have a lot of work ahead of me:) Here are the ones I have actually read: Get Shorty, Billy Bathgate, A Prayer for Owen Meany, Foucault's Pendulum, The Cider House Rules, A Confederacy of Dunces, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The World According to Garp, Intervi...

I would love to be in the audience with a bunch of annoying teenage girls, obsessed with Harry Potter, who come see their idol/heartthrob in a play and end up watching Equus. If your idea of dark is Goblet of Fire, this could be heart attack inducing. On his part, though, I think it could be a bril...

Damien, thank you for the nice comment, but I hope that was in no way a comparison to myself and Paul Haggis:)

Thanks for all the nice comments, my Internet family. I had a lovely day with family, friends, and a brand-new John Wayne/John Ford Boxset to keep me occupied for hours.

Sondheim did win a Pulitzer Prize...1984 for Sunday in the Park with George.

And yes, How To Succeed is a marvelous musical. I love all three recordings I own!

I've been trying to catch up as of late, and have been reminded why those I had left to watch I had never seen: They are fairly uninteresting. cam, I have to disagree. While the original casts tend to be the recordings closer to what the composer originally intended, revival casts can many times offer recordings just as great as usual. Especially since the advent of CD, and the ability to get more content on a disc, revivals are able many...
