I completely disagree. I didn't think her performance was "lame" in the slightest and I truly believe the Academy got it right this time. It was one of the most showstopping, talked-about turns/debuts in years -- an instant legendary performance appropriately acknowledged. I agree with An...

The problem with Hudson’s win is that even if she was the only actress performing in a movie this year, she still could not be considered the best. Lets face it, she isn’t even on Damien’s top five list - she was that lame.

Can’t act, can’t dance. Can sing a little.

Oh, well, Mary Astor, Ethel Barrymore, Vanessa Redgrave, Peggy Ashcroft – meet Jennifer Hudson.

Yes, it's actually the same case as Brandaur's.

But, still, it's Cage. No wonder I had no recollection of him.

I found one!

Claus Maria Brandaur was nominated for playing two members of a family – mainly Baron Bror Blixen, but also his brother Baron Hans Blixen in Out of Africa.

Sidenote: I mean no insult to anyone on this board who may be Israeli or who may have family in Israel. As with everywhere else in the world, innocent men and women with disparate dispositions live in countries whose leaders and official positions I may disagree with. It says nothing about the men ...

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Helen Mirren becomes the first performer to be nominated for portraying one person and then nominated again for playing a direct descendant of that person (Queen Charlotte in The Madness of George III and her great great great great granddaughter in The Queen). Judi Den...

Marco’s remarks about insincerity were not aimed at you at all, Akash. You were only blamed for being young, which can be considered as patronization at best (or worst, if you like). And let me add some apologetic fact. In Europe (and when it comes to release dates, Israel is part of it), unless it...

Marco, you know that I agree with many of your points so I won't repeat them here. But on this particular topic you might want to give a little (pretty please? lol) Just because you will never know exactly what's going on in someone's mind and it is impossible for you to say with alacrity and certi...

How old are you, flipp? My idea of “many years” was about twenty, but this is because I’m of the tender age of 44.

Well, if the London Critics Circle nominations are any indication, then O’Toole has a problem. While they don’t ignore Venus - Jodie Whittaker is up for British newcomer, Leslie Phillips is on the list of British actors in support – they certainly gave him the cold shoulder. Not only he’s not up fo...

But nice to see you're still revved-up to take offense whenever you can. It just that when that very internally American terminology is applied to people and cultures who are so remote from its, well, restrictedness, it looks a little puzzling. It’s like keeping counting Sophie Okonedo or Marianne ...

Have Children of Men opened yet in the States? The problem I see is that it’s mediocre (and Caine is mechanically zany and cute and heroic in it). It’s watchable, but thematically and intellectually is quite juvenile.

Then again The Departed is no better and the American critics went gaga over it.
