If the country is still in recession at election time, do you guys think it will really matter who the Republican nominee will be? McCain seems to be the most electable, but his candidacy seems to me to be based heavily around his national security/foreign affairs experience. If the economy is the ...

What I find rather amusing is the hatred with which the so called Republican Establishment attacks Huckabee. Not even Hillary was pounded that much by them in the last month. And the reason for that is perfectly explained IMHO in the following piece at electoral-vote.com: The bashing of Mike Huckab...

Regarding Obama. Maybe I am talking nonsense, but as an outsider I can see him becoming the Ronald Reagen of the Democratic Party. If I am correct, and any correction from the oldest members like Magilla is absolutely welcome, Reagan too was considered a political lightweight with little substance ...

Just saw Persepolis. What an amazing film! If there is any justice it should take hands down the Animation Oscar, if not to compete for Best Picture. I really pity all those who won't see this masterpiece just beacause they consider cartoons, inferior cinema. It's been a long time since I last saw ...

Brazil is on my All Time Top 10 List. A true cinematic masterpiece with an excellent Jonathan Price.

It's a shame that it was butchered so badly by some studio hacks.

I voted for Ed Wood too. Martin Landau's performance is one of the best of the 90's and Burton treats with respect a much ridiculed figure.

Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow are close seconds.

But isn't an auteur a filmmaker who not only has a distinctive style but also themes and characters that he explores repeatedly, regardless of genre or setting?

As one film critic said, ''auteur isn't the director who does whatever he wants, but the one that does the best he can''.

Isn't that where we're technically at already? I refuse to believe that I'm smarter than the heads of the Democratic party. Hilary Clinton is unelectable. The good news is that the Republicans showed their hands too early by this incessant punditry all but predicting a Hilary sweep into office. Kar...

I knew that original screenplays are hard to find nowadays but this is absurd.

What's next, ''Hide and Seek: The Movie''?

Given how dull the Potter characters and plot are, I'm rather glad he just showed off how good he is with setpieces.

Well, he could TRY to make them more interesting, like good directors do.
But I guess he was too busy arranging all those stylish shots.

In my opinion the fourth film is by far the best. The reason for that is quite simple. Mike Newell is the perfect director for those films. He is an accomplished proffesional, but not a studio hack like Columbus. And he is certainly not the kind of auter to compromise the characters and the plot of...

As a casual fan of the books(the operative word being casual) I mostly agree with Mister Tee's commentary. I think Harry Potter is perhaps the best Star Wars rip-off we can ask for(especially regarding the trio's characterizations, relations and dynamics). As for the movie adaptation, I am antrigue...

I do find it useful in many circumstances, but I don't walk around with it on 24 hours a day, as, apparently, the youth of America do.

Unfortunately, not only the youth of America. Here in Greece even the kids at kindergarten are carrying their cellphone 24/7.
