Streep was pushed as lead for "The Hours". The reason that Julianne Moore was pushed to the supporting category, was the fact that she was in contention with herself for lead with "Far From Heaven".

I also vote Doris Day. She hasn't completely turned her back on her former career, as she has spent time this past year doing several commentaries on her "Doris Day Show" DVD season sets.

I would have liked to have seen a complete showing of all the winners in each acting category going back to when the show was first televised. They seemed to have only showed a little over half of the winners in the various best acting montages since the mid-50's
