The first new movie I've seen in well over a month was The Corpse Bride, and it was enough to make me want to give up watching movies altogether. Then don't see Elizabethtown. Just came back from seeing it and I can now say that Bride & Prejudice is no longer the worst movie I've seen this year.

That's no mistake, flipp525. Before Russell Crowe hit it big, he starred in a well-received Australian film called Proof with Hugo Weaving. I voted for The Insider (he woulda been a much better choice for the Oscar that year than Kevin Spacey, and it's such a much, much better performance than Glad...

I was absolutely bored last night, and I had a free movie pass, so I went to see Into the Blue. Not really worth your trouble, but there is an actress by the name of Ashley Scott that y'all should keep your eye on. She played the blonde girlfriend of Scott Caan; it's a throwaway part, but she inves...

Katie's Dad Furious By Jeannette Walls MSNBC Updated: 2:58 a.m. ET Oct. 12, 2005 Tom Cruise’s future father-in-law apparently isn’t a happy camper. Katie Holmes’s dad is said to be “very upset” because his unmarried daughter is pregnant with Cruise’s child. And, what’s more, the devoutly Catholic M...

I guess I'll update mine as well. Oh, count me as a dessenting vote in the Amy Adams lovefest; She's the least impressive in the frustrating Junebug (best performance in the film, shockingly, is provided by Ben McKenzie)--indeed, since BJ described William Hurt in History of Violence as a cartoon, ...

Quit yellin', it's only childbirth Katie Holmes' mission impossible will be giving birth without painkillers - or screaming. That's because her fiancé, "Mission Impossible" star Tom Cruise, is a Scientologist. Practitioners of Scientology are against drugs but insist on "silent birth...

I do think so, Sonic. It's my interpretation that Cronenberg is juxtaposing the sex scenes (both of which are unconventional for a "mainstream" film) with the violence, to point out a disturbing aspect of American society (I'm assuming, though perhaps it's a universal--and contradictory--...

Hmm, well, what can I say. I do agree that, of course, I would love to see Cronenberg nominated, just as much as Hurt, even moreso, really, since Hurt already has an Oscar; and, yes, I'd love to see Ashton Holmes be recognized for his performance (I love the way his whole character is played, you w...

Hmm, ahem. I loved A History of Violence, but my take is somewhat the opposite of BJ's, and I can see why it might, indeed, have difficulty with the Academy. See, as much as I loved the film--the mad brilliance of the direction, which isn't just taut and exciting, but also, as with any Cronenberg v...

By the way, I don't know if you heard about it, but Annie Proulx's story has been the focus of a fracas down in Austin, Texas. Here's an editorial from The Daily Texan about it all: Viewpoint: Censorship money is not worth it The use of "Brokeback Mountain," a tale of homosexual lovers in...
