All set designs begin with a piece of paper (or a computer screen) not a saw and a piece of wood. So there should not be any difference, it is the same craft. sorry, but to me a set is something tangible. in a movie, a stone wall can be built out of papier-mache, but it actually has to be built to ...

It's all well and good to put The Member of the Wedding out in a boxed set but why not as a single disc as well. It is practically my favorite movie and I have been waiting for ages for it's release. I am not interested in adding all those other Kramer clicks to my collection. Incidentally, in the ...

I shouldn't be shocked, but it's amazing that a film rendered completely digitally gets recognized in a category with flesh-and-blood sets I was very disappointed that The Incredibles did not get an Art Direction nomination at the Oscars. All set designs begin with a piece of paper (or a computer s...

Not having I'm Not There to pick and having seen all but Once I will say Juno, which I liked, but was no big deal. As far as quirky little Canadian movies go (and this was made in Canada) I've seen better.
And for those who will argue at the exclusion of Sweeney Todd, I liked SW as well.

Saw TWBB this afternoon. Still don't know where it is going to end up on the Best Picture list. It looked great and sounded great, with a very effective score which is sometimes more noise than score. I mostly was left thinking of Days Of Heaven, which picked up the tech nominations at the Oscars t...

In a way I am glad to see Atonement absent. I think the adaptation should have addressed some of the books linear flaws.

I'll be happy if we actually have to wait until the winner is announced to know. That will be nice.

Doesn't the video fittingly reflect how horrible the song is? They make a good pair.

I think the only song I ever liked by Chicago was No Tell Lover.

I'd much rather see 4 months get nominated and i'm almost glad diving bell isn't eligible because maybe 4 months will get a win in foreign film. There is no way they will give an Oscar to a film that is that much of a downer - unless it is set in Europe in the 1940's. 4 Months may have fared well-i...

Odd Film out: I think this is far easier to predict since The Diving Bell and the Butterfly while a terrific film is more akin to Barbarian Invasions than it is to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Both of which were nominees in the Foreign Language category. TDBATB is more Il Postino than either of ...
