Mad Detective, nominated here in the screenwriting category, would made an excellent TV cop drama. 'When Officer Wong mysteriously disappears in the woods, his colleague Chi-Wai, who emerged unscathed from the incident, falls under suspicion. Young Inspector Ho is assigned to investigate, and, stym...

I don't know if I call 'The Assassination of Jesse James' an exclusion seeing as it was obviously not going to get in but I will vote for it over 'Diving Bell' which was a genuine exclusion.

Tang Wei absolutely, but I agree with Penelope, HBC as Mrs. Lovett drove the film emotionally. Depp's character had one aim and nothing to lose, and as a result wasn't very interesting. But Mrs. L. knew this was her only chance - and you could see it all in HBC's eyes.

Thanks.

I do know that it is totally polluted, and I am fine with that. I agree, it is the history that I am interested in - otherwise I would go to the beach version of Mexico.
I have to go someplace because I began my night school Spanish lessons yesterday...

I am planning on taking advantage of the near parity between the Canadian $ and the US $ this year. I'm am hoping to go to New York City in May and have been considering a visit to Mexico City in March. I don't want to sit on the beach and I figure that M. City will have museums and old buildings f...

I don't know. If those two cancel each other out...I dread to think what might happen.

I guess this year will be the best example as to why they do that - when they announce No Country For Old Men and it has two directors. (I had forgotten the West Side Story example from the past)

A subconscious omission?

Order: (Aflleck), Bardem (Crowe), Dano, Holbrook, Jones (Rickman), (von Sydow), Wilinson.

You forgot Hoffman.

Best Director is announced alphabetically by film not by director name? I have never noticed this.

Are these people choosing these films just by watching the trailers?! This just extends the joke that this process is for one more year. The Counterfeiters is a very good film and I don't doubt for a second that it will win the statue seeing as all the real competition has been passed over. There i...

NBC.com is showing Dateline (2 Hr) at 7 pm Pacific with an hour long HFPA special 'announcement' at 9 pm. Once again the West Coast gets the Live On Tape shaft!

I rented Treasure of the Sierra Madre last year and it contains a John Huston documentary - which I have seen several times but watched again. The interviews with Huston Jr were of him near the end of his life and it is that voice that I thought of while watching There Will Be Blood. I did not find...
