boy, i have just not be doing well with these predictions. there have just been so many surprise bombs, and no surprise hits. you have the big bombs like "poseidon," and then the disappointing successes like "mission impossible 3" (ending up around $140 million) and "ice ag...

wow, so i was dead on with "the omen." it made $20 million from tuesday to thursday and an additioal $15 million from friday to tuesday for a $35 million seven day haul. however, i was dead wrong about "cars." it is interesting that we live in a world where a nearly $63 million ...

i have not seen "the omen", but i have no reason to think this film will do any better than the other horror remakes that have come out lately. this movie seems to be made simply because some exec at fox could not pass up the opportunity to release the film on 6/6/06. did you notice that ...

i am thinking a $90 million opening for "cars." early reviews are mixed, with some critics thinking it was just o.k. and others absolutely loving it, but no one hates it. it will probably be a lesser pixar film, like "bug's life," "monsters inc," and "the incredib...

wow, it looks like i predicted even better than the professionals. they thought "x-men" would still be number one and "the break-up" would make around $30-25 million. not that i am happy that awful movie made $38 million and will probably go on to make $150 million. i am surpris...

i just saw the trailer for this film. visually it looks great, possible cinematography nom, but more likely a best song nom since it has all new music from outkast. if i have to see three cent mafia (or whatever the hell their name is) win then that better translate into better, non-traditional mus...

i am predicting a $40-35 million opening for "the breakup." i think it will easily pass $100 million and end up with about $150 million.
it is so sad what passes for romantic comedies these days.

i read that both the deakins films were 2007 releases, but they change the dates around so much i cannot keep up. if either one is a 2006, expect them to be nominated. i saw the trailer for "the assasination of jesse james by the coward robert ford" and the cinematography looked great. ki...

what do you think it's chances are for a nomination in visual effects? personally, i thought the f/x were pretty bad. they did not distract me from enjoying the movie, but the f/x for the "superman returns" trailer looked much better, as did the f/x for "pirates of the caribbean 2.&q...

getting this thread back on topic: looks like "over the hedge" is going to make between $150-125 million. "x-men 3" is going to easily make $275-250 million. "the da vinci code" is going to take a little longer but is also going to make $275-250 million. interesting si...

jeanene garofalo and vince vaughn, now those two are equally attractive. jeanene and brad, not equal. vince and jennifer, not equal. was that not the entire plot of "the truth about cats and dog"? the question of whether a guy would pick brains (garofalo) over beauty (uma thurman). ultima...

here is my early short list of picks for cinematography and editing noms. of course, this is simply based on looking at past nominees and the tops in each filed, and also looking at certain directors who are known for making films with good cinematography and editing. obviously the real challengers...

i think it is very interesting, penelope, that in your defense of vince vaughn's sexiness over brad pitt you describe vince as "funny" and "charming" and brad as "smarmy" and "arrogant." correct me if i am wrong, but are those not adjectives that describe som...

with a $44 million single day take (second only to "revenge of the sith" $50 million), i think you may be right about "x-men 3" beating "the da vinci code" van helsing. the only reason i think "the da vinci code" might be able to narrowly beat "x-men 3&q...
