Jason Patric will always be remembered as the person for whom Julia Roberts dumped Kiefer Sutherland on the verge of their marriage. He didn't last all that long as her boyfriend as well.

From what I've seen of his acting, Miller was a better actor than his son. I've never seen Jason Patric exhibit any more believable emotion than your average highschool kid reading Shakespeare in English class.

I think Jason Miller is better remembered as a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright for That Championship Season, as the son-in-law of Jackie Gleason and as the father of Jason Patric than he is as an Oscar nominated supporting actor.

It was a good performacnc, but the character as written in the book was fairly foolproof. I was delighted he was nominated, though at the time it seemed to be a toss-up as to whether he or the legendary Max von Sydow would be nominated in the supporting actor category.

Miller's subsequent on-screen acting jobs in such films as The Ninth Configuration and Rudy were rather forgettable.

I remember being shocked when Miller was nominated in the SUpporting category, although when I saw The Exorcist 20 years later, it struck me that he didn't have all that much screen time, and that it was his PRESENCE that made an impact. (I wonder why he didn't have much of a career. He was certainly a much better actor than he was a playwright.)

I think Julianne Moore, Kidman and Streep should have all been considered leads in The Hours, and none of them should have been nominated. I think Paramount's/Scott Rudin's thinking was that Morre was sure to be nominated as a lead for Far From Heaven, so they should try for a second nominnation in a category where she didn't belong. How delightful that what it ended up meaning was that she got to lose twice. )

If I remember correctly, sUpporting nominee William H. Macy had more screen time than lead actress Frances MacDOrmand in Fargo. in

I think you have to be some sort of a ''name'' actor to get pushed for the lead award.

A reverse case was Nicole Kidman who had little screen time in The Hours yet won in the lead category. Julianne Moore who probably had a little more screen time than Kidman in the same film got relegated to the supporting slot simply because she is a lesser ''name'' than Kidman - for now at least.

How is Jason Miller a SUPPORTING actor in The Exorcist? I recently rewatched it Halloween night and I have to say he's every bit a lead as Ellen Burstyn.
