They're owning highlighting musicals from Chicago forward.

With All the musical numbers, this allready looks like the longest show in history.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar winners Russell Crowe, Jennifer Hudson and Catherine Zeta-Jones will perform at the Academy Awards in a tribute to the resurgence of big-screen musicals, organizers said on Wednesday.

The performance, which will also feature Oscar nominees Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman from "Les Miserables," is part of the several musical acts at the annual Hollywood awards on Sunday.

"We are pleased to have been able to amass so much talent to create the celebration of musicals of the last decade that we envisioned," Oscars producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan said in a statement. "We are thrilled that so many talented actors have agreed to bring our vision to life."

Musicals have had a revival over the past decade in Hollywood. Death row drama "Chicago" won six Academy Awards in 2003, including top prize Best Picture, and girl-group drama "Dreamgirls" scored two Oscars in 2007 while television's "Glee" has won six Emmy awards since 2010.

R&B singer Hudson won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls" and Zeta-Jones won the same award for "Chicago" in 2003.

Crowe, who stars in "Les Mis," won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2001 for his role in the Roman drama "Gladiator."

"Les Mis" scored eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Original Song. "Les Mis" actors Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit and Samantha Banks will also join the musical tribute.

Singers Adele, Shirley Bassey, Norah Jones and Barbara Streisand will also perform at the awards show.

Adele is nominated for an Oscar for her song "Skyfall" in the James Bond film of the same name, and Jones will perform Oscar-nominated song "Everybody Needs a Best Friend" from "Ted."

I just checked the schedule at abc.com. 7:00 PM EST is the start time for "Oscars Red Carpet Live" and 8:30 PM EST is the start time for "The Oscars."

I'm fairly certain that's the pre-show. The Oscars have never started before 7pm Central since I've been watching them and that time would be 6pm Central...

The oscar.com site states that the show begins at 7PM EST. Does anyone know if this is the time for the pre-show or the actual awards show?

Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are musical afficianados. They have produced many musicals from Chicago to Hairspray to TV's Smash. Seems ot me they are taking revenge on previous Oscar prodcers who cut out most or all musical content and they're going at with a vengeance. Good for them!

It sounds like the Oscars are actually going to be the Les Miserables and Skyfall show. Why is there so little focus on the other films in contention? Why not try to reassemble the real-life people portrayed in Argo (the ones that are still alive) with the actors who played them? Or bring Seal Team Six onto the stage as part of a tribute to ZDT? What about a convention of living actors who've portrayed Lincoln? It seems rather disingenuous to focus solely on two films.

The Les Mis performance will feature actors who have appeared in past productions of the musical -- several of my friends are slated to appear as part of this ensemble.

Just announced: 5 out of the 6 actors to have played James Bond will appear onstage together as part of the James Bond tribute. Ironically, the one to be holding out is Pierce Brosnan, not Sean Connery who has not only retired from making public appearances, but has voiced public disdain toward the EON Bond franchise after a huge falling out with Bond producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman in late 1960s/early 1970s. You'd think that if Connery agreed to be a part of this, they'd have no trouble getting the second-most recent Bond to make an appearance.
