What he said, although I'd replace the Leone movie with The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

From Here to Eternity deserves a special runner-up mention for Monty Clift's magnificent performance.

The Academy probably made the right choice, but if you asked me which of these films I would want to watch tonight I would pick Roman Holiday.
