* Two Presidents since 1959 have gained 49 out of the 50 states, and they were both Republicans: Nixon in 1972 and Reagan in 1984.

* Out of all 46 Vice-Presidents, only 13 have gone on to directly become President. 8 of them were the result of their President dying. One was a result of resignation. 4 were elected. A 14th, Richard Nixon, was elected to the Presidency 8 years after leaving office.

I was interested to learn that one vice-president actually wrote a hit song called "It's All in the Game" (sung by Tommy Edwards in 1958). Charles Gates Hughes was the name, and he also was one of only three VPs to win a Nobel Prize (1925).
He served under Calvin Coolidge in 1925-1929.

* Only two sons of former Presidents have gone on to win the Presidency: John Quincy Adams in 1824 and George W. Bush in 2000. Bush also was the only son of a President to win re-election. A grandson, Benjamin Harrison, won the office in 1888. Both Adams and Harrison lost their bid for re-election.

* Only two Presidents have ever been impeached. They were Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1999. Johnson eventually went on to win a senate seat in 1875. Clinton's wife, Hillary, became the first First Lady to win election to the senate in 2000. She also fought for her party's nomination for President in 2008. Bill seems content to remain a former President.

* In 40 years, only 3 Democrats have been elected to the Presidency. Since 1968, there have been 11 elections. The four that resulted in Democrat victories were 1976 (Carter), 1992 (Clinton), 1996 (Clinton) and 2008 (Obama).

* Out of 43 Presidents, only 15 were directly re-elected to office. A 16th, Grover Cleveland, won a second term non-consecutively. Between 1800 and 1825, three Presidents were re-elected in a row. If Barack Obama were to be re-elected in 2012, it will be quite interesting from an historical perspective.
"Because here’s the thing about life: There’s no accounting for what fate will deal you. Some days when you need a hand. There are other days when we’re called to lend a hand." -- President Joe Biden, 01/20/2021
