I'm not sure what to make of this, but, as usual, the ACLU makes some amount of sense.

ACLU: Sex in restroom stalls is private

Tue Jan 15, 11:15 PM ET

ST. PAUL, Minn. - In an effort to help Sen. Larry Craig, the American Civil Liberties Union is arguing that people who have sex in public bathrooms have an expectation of privacy.

Craig, of Idaho, is asking the Minnesota Court of Appeals to let him withdraw his guilty plea to disorderly conduct stemming from a bathroom sex sting at the Minneapolis airport.

The ACLU filed a brief Tuesday supporting Craig. It cited a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling 38 years ago that found that people who have sex in closed stalls in public restrooms "have a reasonable expectation of privacy."

That means the state cannot prove Craig was inviting an undercover officer to have sex in public, the ACLU wrote.

The Republican senator was arrested June 11 by an undercover officer who said Craig tapped his feet and swiped his hand under a stall divider in a way that signaled he wanted sex. Craig has denied that, saying his actions were misconstrued.

The ACLU argued that even if Craig was inviting the officer to have sex, his actions wouldn't be illegal.

"The government cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Senator Craig was inviting the undercover officer to engage in anything other than sexual intimacy that would not have called attention to itself in a closed stall in the public restroom," the ACLU wrote in its brief.

The ACLU also noted that Craig was originally charged with interference with privacy, which it said was an admission by the state that people in the bathroom stall expect privacy.

Craig at one point said he would resign but now says he will finish his term, which ends in January 2009.

I could never date a Republican. Sex is sex I guess, but if I know in advance someone is a Republican, it will kill even the physical attraction for me (I'm not kidding). I don't really even have friends who aren't liberals or progressives.

That being said, my parents are maddeningly fiscally conservative so my life is not devoid of people with bad politics. They always vote Democrat but as you can imagine, we argue a lot.

I dated one, too, Damien, back in 2003-04. We saw each other for about ten months. He was hot, had a killer body and a reasonably good personality (although he liked smooth jazz and pronounced façade like "fay-caid", little faults I was willing to overlook at the time because the sex was so good). Then I found out that he was seeing someone else at the same time we were together, a guy that I met the same night he did at one of MY friend's birthday parties. I even ran into the two of them out at a bar and the Republican actually tried to introduce me to him. I was like, "I met him the same night that you did. Are you joking?" At one point, towards the end of our relationship, he actually pretended not to see me on the street.

Several months ago, I went out with a guy and had a pretty good time. He later invited me to dinner at his place. It was wonderful. Then I excused myself to use the restroom which was upstairs on the second level of the house. At the top of the stairs was a framed autographed photo of (wait for it...) George Allen. He drove me home and I never called him again.

Just in time for "gay as Christmas" is a Larry Craig action figure. At least it's not a blow-up doll. You can order one here for $34.99; but, right now they're sold out.

I once dated a Republican for a while. He dumped me on my birthday.

My beloved (with whom I've been for 17 years now) was a member of the Young Communist League in the Philippines.

I don't see how any sexual encounter with a Republican could be described as "hot." Even if it is gay.

One of my liberal fags (god, I have so many) once dated a closeted Republican and he told me after they broke up that the sex was bad because, "he would just lie there. I had to do everything."

From the Associated Press:

FOUR MEN CLAIM THEY HAD HOT SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS WITH CRAIG

BOISE, Idaho -- Four men say they either had sex with Sen. Larry Craig or were the target of a sexual advance by the Idaho Republican at various times during his political career, the Idaho Statesman reported Sunday.

The newspaper identified all four men and reported details of the encounters they say involved Craig. It also reported the accounts of four other men who declined to be identified in the story, but described various sexual advances or encounters with the conservative Republican.

The newspaper acknowledged that the story was not based on any definitive evidence, instead relying on "he said, he said" accounts. An investigation, including a review of travel and property records and background checks, found no evidence to disprove the accounts of the four identified men, the newspaper reported.

Craig and members of his staff declined to comment in the report.

Craig spokesman Dan Whiting did not immediately return telephone messages left Sunday by The Associated Press.

The story is the Statesman's latest on Craig's sexual background after his June arrest in an airport men's room sex sting operation was reported in late August. Craig, 62, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after being accused by an undercover officer of soliciting sex in a bathroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport.

Shortly after news of his guilty plea surfaced, Craig denied he was gay in a press conference in Boise, and days later, amid pressure from top GOP leaders in Washington D.C., announced his intent to resign from the Senate.

But Craig later changed his mind, deciding instead he could still be an effective lawmaker and to finish out his term, which expires in January 2009. He is also arguing in Minnesota courts to have his guilty plea overturned.

Statesman Editor Vicki Gowler said the newspaper spent several months checking the backgrounds and details of the men's stories.

"We believe it's important for you to know what we've learned and to hear the men's own words," Gowler said.

The men identified in the report are: David Phillips, 42, of Washington, D.C.; Mike Jones, 50, Denver; Greg Ruth, 50, of Washington D.C., and Tom Russell, 48, Utah.

Jones, described as a former male escort, was the focus of the sex scandal involving Rev. Ted Haggard, the disgraced leader of the Colorado Springs-based New Life Church and former president of the National Association of Evangelicals.

I went to the 22nd Annual High Heel Race on 17th Street last night. It's held on the night before Halloween each year -- a foot race in high heels for competing local drag queens attended by thousands of spectators in Dupont Circle. The prize is an open bar tab for a year at one of the local bars. Anyway beside "Little Edie" Beale from Grey Gardens, a big fat Anna Nicole Smith (holding her baby), and Hester Prynne, the costume I liked the most was a man dressed as Senator Larry Craig being pushed down the street by a cop while he was on a toilet on rollers, handcuffed and penitent. I love "in-the-moment" costumes like that.

Republicans DO have all manners of different names for things like Death Tax...and there's a new one that just cropped up that I can't recall off the top of my head.

From DownWithTyranny.com:

Up in Washington state, another I'm-Not-Gay-Republican-- yawn-- Washington State Rep. Richard Curtis is all caught up in some extortion business with a gay prostitute. KREM, a Spokane TV station, reported that Curtis and the male hooker had "a sexual encounter and were seen together at various spots around the city." Spokane is just up the road apiece from Idaho and Curtis said, "I am not gay. I have not had sex with a guy." A.P. is reporting that Curtis and the hooker met at one of those porno video shops (the Hollywood Erotic Boutique) at 12:45am and then went back to Curtis' hotel room at 3:30am for sex. They don't say who did what to whom but the trick, Cody Castagna, demanded a grand to not blab that Curtis, who is married, is also enjoying the company of young men, and Curtis called the cops.

Before you start feeling too sorry for this chump, keep this in mind: he's a self-righteous right-wing turd who he voted against domestic partnerships for gay and lesbian couples. Last year, he opposed a gay rights bill that banned discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Flush another Republican hypocrite down the toilet. I've lost count.

UPDATE: THE REPUBLICAN IS A DRAG QUEEN!

KXLY reports that GOP Rep. Curtis was not just into picking up young men for sex, he was also into wearing lady's clothing. My God! What is wrong with these Republicans? This guy voted no on employment equality for gay men and women while he was wearing frilly undies! (He insists he's not gay. Maybe the Republicans have their own words for things that are different from normal people's vocabularies. The KXLY Report is completely graphic (anal sex, etc).

State Representative Richard Curtis says he's not gay, but police reports and court records indicate the Republican lawmaker from southwestern Washington dressed up in women's lingerie and met a Medical Lake man in a local erotic video store which led to consensual sex at a downtown hotel and a threat to expose Curtis' activities publicly.

A search warrant unsealed Tuesday morning disclosed that State Representative Richard Curtis (R - La Center) had sex in his room at the Davenport Tower with a man identified as Cody Castagna, 26, of Medical Lake, who he met at the Hollywood Erotic Boutique on October 26th.

Curtis, according to a search warrant unsealed Tuesday, went to the Hollywood Erotic Boutique on East Sprague on October 26th at approximately 12:45 a.m. The store clerk, who had talked with Curtis, referred to him as "The Cross-Dresser" and said that during their conversations he confirmed he was gay and was married with children at home.

During his visit to the video store Curtis was observed wearing women's lingerie while receiving oral sex from an unidentified man in one of the movie viewing booths inside the store.

The rest of the details are incredible. Just makes you wonder if these kinds of people become Republicans or if being a Republican makes you like this. You might be interested in knowing that this fine GOP specimen, aside from a 100% homophobic voting record, also opposed using state dollars to provide health care for the children of undocumented workers and has uniformly low marks from Washington Conservation Voters, the abortion rights group NARAL and the AFL-CIO. All fits together-- especially the lingerie.

OMG! I used to go to the Follies. It was part of a series of gay bar/strip clubs in Southeast Washington that were shut down last year in order to make way for the new stadium and the general gentrification of the area. Tracks, just next door, was my first gay bar back in 1995 and was truly legendary. They had an outdoor beach volleyball court in the center of the bar. A friend of mine blew MTV VJ John Norris in the bathroom there once. Tracks started the Madonna-thon that is still copied to this day in clubs around the area. I believe the spot where the Follies used to stand (in fact, I'm actually looking out my office window at where it used to be) is now occupied by a defense contractor. Little do they know that these buildings rest upon the graves of many a dead gay bar.

Larry Craig -- what a fucking pig. Self-hating, repressed (and homophobic) faggots like him make me sick.
