Uta Hagen in The Other. Ahhh! I had forgotten all about that creepy movie!
I have always refused to buy movies, with exceptions. But recently I have been on a binge. Not a Reza-like binge, but a binge none the less. If I lived in the US I would be broke - Amazon is so inexpensive! But in Canada it isn't too bad.
The list:
The Pink Panther Film Collection (MGM) - (not bad for $50 at HMV) Sorry, but I love these movies - well...up until Peter Sellers died. There are good extras on the bonus disc, with several cartoon features as well. I didn't notice until I got the set home that it does not contain the best of the lot, The Return Of The Pink Panther. That one was a Universal release. Tracking it down was a chore. But I was successful.
The Party - more Peter Sellers. Fall off the couch watching this one!
In The Mood For Love - haven't watched it yet, but I am just thrilled to have it. I saw a bootleg copy of 2046 the other day and I was sorely tempted, for $7, but resisted!
Run Lola Run
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Koyaanisqatsi - never even dreamed that I could one day own my own copy of this.
The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane - I have loved this movie for decades, but haven't seen it in a while, so I will find out how it stands up...
AND...
The Art Of Buster Keaton (KINO) - 11 disc set. I took the plunge and I'm very happy. I want to marry it. The info on the Amazon and Kino sites is a little vague but it is worth the money. Eleven of his 'full-length' films plus 19 shorts. The bonus disc is full of great stuff, most of which I have never seen before.

Also being released on Septmber 5th, the last DVD release date before 9/11, are a couple of films it's taken a little longer to come to DVD.
Thomas Tryon's The Other (1972), which was released on VHS in the early days of the format and almost never shown on TV, finally comes to DVD. Tryon was a hugely successful pop horror writer before Stephen King completely eclipsed him and The Other was one of his creepiest novels turned into an equally creep film with Uta Hagen, who won Tonys for The Country Girl and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, in her only starring film role. Tryon himself was, of course, an actor best known for his starring roles in I Married a Monster From OUter Space and The Cardinal.
Pretty Poison (1968) which won the N.Y. Film Critics Award for its screenplay and a runner-up best actress nod for Tuesday Weld has never been released in any video format and is also long overdue. Anthony Perkins, whose widow was on one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center, co-stars.

I wasn't off by much. The new "window" seems to be about three months after leaving theatres, unless it was complete crap and a box-office dud. In such a case, some films have been released in as little as one month after leaving theatres. We joke about little things like that at my store.

I expect that United 93, which has left theaters, will be on dvd within the next three months.

Isn't this still in theatres? Are you sure you didn't order "Flight 93," which is a direct-to-dvd title?
I think it might be a bootleg copy.
Yes bootleg, but superb print and sound. No extras ofcourse!
