I've met or am acquaintances with two of the members, yes, and am familiar with one other. The rest? Never met or heard of them before in my life.

Interestingly enough, the individual who set up this still fledgling organization just announced he's stepping down from administrative duties: https://mnfilmcriticalliance.wordpress. ... he-future/
I always kept an eye out for a Minnesota film critics group to join, and yet one didn’t exist. I waited through college, and that continued as I my career in journalism got underway. Finally, 2020 arrived, and there still was no sort of group to join.

So, I decided to start the MNFCA that summer, and the rest is history.
Yes, "history," indeed, very historic. In other words, a blogger looking to slap the imprimatur of discernment on his own provincial opinions creates the shell of an organization that, to the best I can tell, only exists to add another taste lemming to the already comically long conga line, and then having done so decides it's too much work to carry on, but don't worry, he'll stick around as a voting member while someone else steps up to handle the business side of things? (If I'm salty, it's only because for many years I thought it was sort of "punk," as it goes, that Minnesota/the Twin Cities were among the few remaining holdouts from joining this annual embarrassment of intellectual poverty.)

As I think I mentioned last year, there is exactly one (1) salaried film critic working in traditional media in the entire state of Minnesota (Star Tribune's Chris Hewitt, and even he multitasks with other editorial beats). As with all of the groups Tee and others correctly push off to this sidebar thread, there is no compelling reason for this group to exist, even if they weren't both a) extremely late to the party, and b) rehashing the 183rd iteration of the same lineup all other uber-regional groups have already rubber-stamped. I'm not saying that there aren't interesting voices within this organization, on Kansas City's, or Utah's, or etc. But at the risk of sounding like Dwight MacDonald, these groups are are not made up of critics; they're fans.

Sorry not sorry, as they say.
